I have never stayed at Mc Gowan's but have been back again and again for there breakfast. My sister and I are actually taking my dad this saturday for his 50th birthday.

Our group of friends visited here between Jan. 31 and Feb. 3rd of '08. It was a memorial trip for our dear friend that lost his life while snowmobiling up there the very same weekend of '07. We enjoyed good breakfasts in their restaurant and nice hot showers with good pressure in the rooms. All together there were 10 of us sharing 3 rooms. The price our friend that booked the rooms was quoted was $55 a night, however when it came time to pay it was $72, the boss on the phone did not tell our friend about the higher price with more than 2 people in the room even though he did tell her how many people we had in our group, and how many rooms we wanted. We questioned about the cost and received deliberate disconcern and were told we could go stay somewhere else. The boss lady also said that she was not going to argue with our friend, who was not arguing, simply questioning why the change in cost. This price change was a shock to us all, considering the fact that we traveled from Saginaw, were all on limited budgets while there and all were going through a rough time concerning our friend's death. The attitude this lady had, was like she could care less if we had issues, since its their busy season and could fill our rooms with no problem. I was so frustrated with her unprofessional manner and said I will never stay here again. I have since told everyone I know about this. It's really too bad, because this was one of the best places to stay in Trout Lake.

McGowans has a nice restaurant, rooms are clean. Not fancy but neither is the price. Hot water, good heat, just the basics we wanted. Staff was very friendly. Right on trail.

They have a friendly staff. With good local foods on the site. Will stay there when in town agaon.
