“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Spent three nights recently in this hotel while in town over the holidays for a sports tournament. Yes the hotel is older, but it was very clean and we enjoyed our stay. Hotel cleaning staff was excellent and very accomodating for our crazy schedule. Best thing about hotel is location and we took advantage of it by walking to local shops and restaurants each day. Our rooms were very spacious, however we were not on the tower side of the hotel. Definitely could use newer mattresses. Pool and gym were a bit out of the way, however I was pleased to find lockers, showers and changing rooms all in the excercise area. Overall, if you are looking for a quaint, DOWNTOWN hotel - this is very nice. If you only want modern, updated rooms- try one of the newer hotels down the road.

Room Tip: Family of 5 can easily and comfortably stay in one room with roll-away if not on tower side of hotel...

“Decent Hotel, small rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We stayed here for two nights using credit card points since we had been to a wedding here previously and felt the hotel common areas were charming. We had our two teenagers with us and were in the main building 6th floor. The young gentleman checking us in gave us a room in the annex section over the parking lot and I asked if we could be in the original hotel and he accommodated us, stating that the room in the annex were larger, though, but he'd give us a corner room in the tower section since it is their largest room.

Room: Attractive but small (even a corner room). There was no closet, just two free standing outdated armoires. Two small drawers total to hold clothes for four people. Beds comfortable. Tv was old style and sat three feet off floor so it was difficult to watch. They had limited movies for rent (like 7) for $16 per movie. There was a large fridge and a tiny table with two seats. Bathroom was small (but clean)and they had frosted paper on window (no window coverings?) that had peeled so we had to awkwardly place a towel over it so no one could see in. Cleaning lady tidied up but did not relace towels though they were in tub indicating please replace. Free WiFi. Overall: if we had two people, it would be comfortable. With four we felt very cramped. Try the annex if you want more space. The fan, when running, was incredibly loud. Also, our room faced the back of the hotel and some machinery below our window made a loud noise that kept me up a bit. ALso, delivery truck "beeping" at 6 am was a treat.

Pool: Large (up to 5 feet) and a hot tub, well kept. The area around pool is showing wear. Fitness center had tons of equipment and free weights. Attendant checks you in.

Restaurant: very good food for breakfast. Room serice menu looked decent. We had drinks here prior to the wedding we attended months ago and felt they were fine. We had drinks on the top bar too a few months back and they had awesome live entertainment. Small space, though. Check it out.

Location: Couldn't be better. The reason we stayed here. We walked from hotel to Front street with tons of great restaurants and shops. Bay is right there, too, for summer months, an ideal location. Tight parking space if hotel is holding convention or wedding.

Misc: Lobby is quaint. Attendants were pleasant. Elevators tiny but this is an older hotel so to be expected. There was a wedding Fri night so when we came back from dinner (Boone's) we had a difficult time finding a parking spot.

We had plans to spend our last night in a suite at another hotel and after two days tripping over each other in our room, I was a bit relieved. The rooms are that tiny. However, if you don't plan to spend much time in the room, not a huge factor. I would say this would be a great choice for couples, maybe not for families- there are many other hotels that would cater in space and amenities more. Had I paid for this room I would have been more disappointed.

“Location, Location, Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Stayed at the Park Place Hotel over the weekend. What an absolutely fantastic location to park and then walk a couple blocks to the main street and another block and a half to the bay. We had two rooms on the 6th floor that were nicely furnished with a great view of the city, the bay and a beautiful sunset. While the hotel itself is old (historical) and the bathrooms showed the age, it was very clean and the staff could not have been any nicer! We will definately return here due to the ideal location and staff. Additionally, since it was the end of October, we got a great rate (129.00 per room) so overall were very pleased.

Room Tip: Ask for a room up higher in the tower - have stayed here twice and found those rooms to have charact...

“An aging Gem, great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed at the hotel to enjoy the shopping and dining in downtown Traverse City. The hotel looks to have been a gem in the past. Now, it's tired and in need of some tlc. The top floor lounge has a fantastic view. However, tables, window sills, and equipment is in disrepair. The staff are friendly, and our room was clean and just fine. We were greeted by several dogs in the halls, so others were enjoying the pet friendly services. It's not fancy, but it's got more character than the chain hotels a few miles away.

“great location, rooms a little tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

I stayed here for a business trip to Traverse City. The hotel is ideally located just a short walk to the main street with numerous bars and resturants. There is ample parking at the hotel too. The main bar and resturant were good, although breakfast could be slow. The top floor has a bar overlooking the city and bay with some nice sunset views, however once it was dark outside it was very difficult to read the menus as the ambient lighting was none existant. My first room was good loads of room, although the decor was dated. I checked back in a day or so later and was given a room that was rather tired, there had been an attempt to recoat the bath tub with some kind of paint, which had started to peel off. I also thought the size of the bathroom was quite tiny and clostrophobic when the door was shut. I found that the floor was easy to flood when taking a shower.
would I stay there again, if I was picking up the bill no as it was quite expensive for what it was. Would I pay to go back to Traverse City again, most certainly will. It is a lovely town, fabulously friendly people, nice food and lots for an out door based holiday to do.
