I was given a room that was in the BASEMENT. I didn't even know motels had a basement! I was instructed to go around to the back of the motel, and down some stairs, where the rooms were. As I came down dimly lit stairs, a little dog was tied up there and was barking at me as I came down. I guess it belongs to someone who LIVES in one of the motel rooms there. The smell of smoke was reeking from the hallway. I opened my room door, and it was absolutely FREEZING in there! I thought maybe it was because of the a/c being on…so I fiddled with the thermostat (which read that it was 50 degrees in there!). I turned it to “heat” and turned the temperature up. But nothing worked. I didn’t have any warm clothes with me, as I was expecting pretty hot weather. However, I did have my camping gear with me (as I was going to camp the next night), so I got out my sleeping bag and a fleece hood that I bring that can keep my head warm. I finally fell asleep, though it was hard to, and when I woke up 5 hrs. later, I was pretty cold in my sleeping bag. Brr. I packed up pretty quickly and put on my rain jacket to try and get warmed up. I guess I should have called the hotel front desk when I got in, to see if I could be moved, but it was very late (2 a.m.! Due to my flight being delayed) and I had just driven 2 hours from Detroit to Sturgis, Michigan to get to the hotel, and I just wanted to get to sleep. I survived, but what a place. The breakfast advertised was some cereals, and some packaged pastries. Good grief.

We stayed Aug. 2006 at the Knight's Inn in Sturgis, MI. for one night. We were surprised at the Awful conditions of the place. The bathroom floor was not clean, the tub had a dark ring on one side, there was just two half rolls of toilet paper in the room, no blankets on the bed, a broken lightbult in the lamp above one of the beds, red stains on the side of the bed (blood??), curtains that did not cover the whole window when closed. The phone was so dirty, I was afraid to use it to make a wake up call, so I just hoped for the best. The breakfast advertised was a disgrace - the donuts were old. The entrance doors were broken and left open during the night so anyone could have walked in. Then my friend said he saw on the internet where the room should have been 25.00 for the night - we were charged 60.00 including tax. I would never stay here again and will never reserve a Knight's Inn room in advance again - I would want to see it first as I no longer trust the name.

The Sturgis Knight’s Inn is a total disaster (Similar to Katrina Hurricane) area as of 8/17/2006.
The pictures (30/40 years old) on the internet of the motel are completely misleading because the
outside and Inside are not in agreement at all. The building (outside and inside) has not been
painted in years. There three entrance and exit have broken doors pumps thus anyone and/or
critters could enter the building. Several screens broken and several rods hanging in windows.
There were many shingles missing from roof, thank mother nature it did not rain while we were there…unfortunately, it has rain on other people because the rooms smelled very bad of mildew.
There were no lights on in the parking lot...very scary. Also, several construction and truckers
watching us while unloading luggage…extremely uncomfortable. The motel room door locks
were installed with residential locks versus commercial locks…unsecured. Once we were
established in the room I barricaded the door with a chair and slept with one eye opened all night.
The sofa pillows were all ripped and smelled. There were 5 unwrapped roll ends of toilet tissue
supplied, which we did not use. At the foot of the bed was bloodstains and no blankets provided…unbelievable We did not drink water from faucet (drank bottle water) nor did we take
a shower…tub was orange – unsanitary. The TV remote did not work because no batteries. The
pool was out of order, however, I noticed comments from other customers that the pool was not
available earlier in the year and last year as well. I highly recommend not staying here unless
your looking for the worst motel in the U.S.A. It’s obvious the management has not invested any
monies for maintenance and improvement in many years. I can’t believe the state of Michigan has
not closed down this so-called business yet. Shipshewana, IN is a nice town to visit not the Sturgis,
MI Knight’s Inn. We had two other couples with us that have the same opinion about this motel. This
motel is a truck and motorcycle stop – Do yourself a favor don’t bring your wife and family here. Harry

I had a reservation for a handicapped-accessible room at this hotel. When I arrived I found that I could get into neither the office (not accessible) nor the room (ditto). There were no grab bars next to the toilet in the room and not enough room to try to get my Amigo into the room. We cancelled and had to look elsewhere at the last minute. When I called back to talk to management they were abusive and unsympathetic -- took no responsibility for customer service at all. Avoid this place at all costs!
