Spent the Friday night before New Years Eve at the Sterling Inn with my 5 year old daughter to take advantage of the indoor water park in a cold Michigan winter.
We made reservations directly off of the hotels website to take advantage of the lowest price for the internet rate. This rate was lower than Expedia or some of the other travel websites we checked.
Check-in was a snap. The hotel staff at the front desk was friendly and organized and had us on our way in no time.
Our room was in "the north building" which is across the parking lot from the main building, but was connected with an enclosed second floor corridor. It would have been nicer to be closer to the pool, but on the other hand, it might have been quieter being in the North Building. Didn't have any trouble sleeping, and didn't hear anyone else during the night either.
We spent a couple of hours in the indoor waterpark before dinner. The pool area was well supervised by numerous lifeguards and was clean. We took advantage of the Lazy River, my daughter rode on a tube while I floated and walked behind her to keep an eye on her. In the center of the Lazy River was a kind of round tidal whirlpool where the water spins around. All of the kids loved this feature, and it was fun.
Adjacent to the Lazy River was a good sized curving water slide that was supervised very well. My daughter was a little short and an early swimmer, so she decided not to go on the slide. The lifeguards at the pool kept a close eye on both the slide and the "landing" area of the pool below to make sure nobody got hurt. That was impressive in itself as there were a lot of kids in the pool when we were there.
Next to the slide and Lazy River was a zero entry shallow pool area with some water features and fountains in the middle for the littler kids to play in and a deeper pool area for more advanced swimmers.
There is also another smaller little kids water park area in an adjacent room separated by a glass wall for the really young kids to play in. The water in this room was only about 18 inches deep and there were some small tube slides and open slides for the kids to play in.
The water could have been a little warmer during our visit on Friday evening, but it did seem to be a little warmer on Saturday. It is winter in Michigan and there are glass walls all around the pool area, so it was pretty much expected, and wasn't too bad, but it could have been warmer.
We had dinner in the Loon River Cafe attached to the hotel. The food was good and the service was decent too. It was very convenient to have dinner right at the hotel.
After dinner we drove across the street to the movie theatre (very large with a lot of movies) and saw TinTin. That was a nice evening out, and it was nice to be so close to the hotel. After the movie we came back to the hotel and went to sleep. Nice a quiet at night.
In the morning we had breakfast at the Loon River Cafe again and the breakfast was okay, but the servers appeared to be a little understaffed for the large crowd that showed up on what was now new years eve breakfast. Not a big deal, and we went with the flow.
Check out was 11am or so, so we packed up and were allowed to go back to the pool until 2 or 3 pm. The check-out process was as smooth as could be. There was a clown in the lobby for the upcoming new years eve and she gave my daughter a neat balloon and made her happy.
There were locker rooms in the pool area so we were able to take showers and get dressed before we left.
When we checked out, we unfortunately forgot to take our daughter's security blanket with us. We called the hotel to ask if they could help find it. This is where the hotel service really shined. The staff went out of their way to locate our white 30"x30" blanket that didn't look much different than an ordinary bath towel. But, they were able to locate the missing security blanket and reunite our daughter with her treasured blanket. When we offered a little "something for the effort", they politely declined several times and said it was their pleasure to help out. Wow....that really made the whole experience special for us.

I'm thrilled that we were able to locate your daughter's blanket. Hope you and your family can return soon.
