Showed up for a Convention (held at the facility) April 30 - May 1 2003. Exterior of hotel and inside lobby wall going under renovation. Scaffolding and workers everywhere. (I guess they are trying) I can understand that. The real surprise came inside. The first set of rooms (on the 14th floor) were terrible. When I got on the elevator my doubts about this place started, carpet in elevator was very dirty. When the elevator opened on the 14th floor the carpet was nasty. The room was even worse. Don't ever walk on hotel carpet without shoes on, especially here. Hey guys a vacuum cleaner can help a lot. The whole room was run down. The bathroom sink had a big gouge in it. We had two rooms and in one the bathroom ceiling had a series of brown stuff stuck to it, one clump had a pubic hair sticking out of it. When I went to the front desk to see the Manager the girl at the desk was rude and evasive. The Manager could not be bothered, she asked again (desk clerk) what I needed and informed her that the 2 rooms were unacceptable she made a smart remark that I didn't need to see the Manager after all what was she there for. She gave me two different rooms on the 17th floor. These were not great but I could make do for only two nights. Carpet in all hallways are very old and could use a good vacuuming. The hotel is an old Hilton property, little has been done to the facility since this Ramada Franchiser reopened it. Several people I found from our convention left to stay elsewhere and several asked to be moved to different rooms. I also learned and saw evidence that the first 6 or 8 floors appears to be being used as public housing, (explains all the old junky cars in the parking lot and the kids running the halls and the old guy out front on the bench in slippers, doctors pants in old t-shirt and unshaven and unbathed bathed for several days.) This guy must have just arrived as I saw him earlier that day with a cart full of trash bags with his possessions being helped onto the elevator by (an embarrassed) complaining that somthing has to be done about this. (about the people). This has convinced me to NEVER stay at a Ramada property again and I am sending a letter to the Convention Sponsor and Ramada Corporate offices regarding my displeasure with this facility.
