“Do not stay at Extended Stay America - Unbelievably Substandard with NO AMENTIES”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

If you are traveling to Detroit, DO NOT STAY at Extended Stay America in Canton, MI. The hotel is truly disgusting and the amenities, while they promote they have more and better than any others, is extremely worse than poor.
They do not clean your room daily unless you are staying a whole week. They provide no shampoo in the rooms - you are on your own to buy. They have no blow dryers and the rooms have poor air conditioning. The carpets are stained from animal urine and it smells like it (at least I hope it's only animal urine - would hate to think otherwise).
You can get a lot better at Holiday Inn Express for the same or less rate then you would pay here and the services at HI Express are incredible along with the amenities. I shall never again stay at an Extended Stay America Hotel again. I truly suggest that you look elswhere too. Don't put yourself through this. I am stuck her the week and am just simply disgusted. I had to change rooms twice due to the poor air quality in the rooms as the A/Cs are so old they do not function properly. The beds are horrible and the pillows are paper thin from apparent years of use and not replaced. As a member of HI Priority Club, I have grown to appreciate the small amenities a hotel should have. This one is worse than your greatest fear of a really scary "motel" on an abandoned highway. The rates should be $5 per night for the condition of these rooms. I will say that the poor young man at the desk who had to listen to me, not only agreed with me that it is extremebly ininhabitable a place but he actuall went out of his way to try and make me feel better. His loyalty to the company is commedable but I am being completely honest when I say, I've never experienced worse in all of my years of travel. Just horrified with the condition of the hotel and rooms.

Good Luck with your travels and PLEASE, think twice before staying at Extended Stay America. I wouldn't kennel my own dog her, even if it was free.

John, very dissappointed and disgusted.

“Great Staff, Affordable Rate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2009

Stayed here during our business trip for 13 days. Really enjoyed it. The staff, especially Brian, Andrea, and Mablene, were really helpful and would bend backward to help. Conveniently locate in a nice and peaceful area, yet close to downtown (25min). Definitely recommend to anyone.

“Not a great experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2007

The rooms themselves were not terrible and we were only staying for one night so it was fine for sleeping. However, after we checked in, we left to go see a concert. When we returned late at night, our card key wouldn't open our room door. After asking at the desk, we found out that the attendants had accidentally tried to assign our room to another traveler! The hotel staff gave them a card key to our room and only realized their mistake when the other people returned to the desk and said, "there are bags in that room already." We couldn't believe that someone else was given access to our room while we were away from it. We were lucky that nothing was stolen (as far as we have noticed yet). Also, the hotel does not have any ice machines. I have never been in a hotel that didn't offer at least that. There aren't too many restaurants nearby either.
