I had a gift certificate that was good for either Extended Stay America or Homestead Suites. I chose Homestead because it was closest to where I wanted to be in the Detroit area. and it was horribly disappointing.
I checked in quite late and was tired. The first room I was given had a broken toilet. The front desk clerk had me repack my luggage, travel back downstairs, and get another room. The second room was 85 degrees. She suggested I wait until the air conditioning cooled the room -- it took over an hour.
These rooms are supposed to have a "home away from home" feel, with comfortable furnishings and adequate kitchen amenities. However, the furnishings were shabby, and housekeeping appears to be lazy. The stove top was filthy, there was one small bar of soap in the bathroom and a quarter roll of toilet paper, and there were no coffee cups in the room. There was a small coffee maker with a single pack of coffee -- if I wanted more coffee, I could either pay .25 in the hotel lobby, or wait until breakfast.
Speaking of the lobby, it's very nice. When I walked in, I thought for sure that the rooms were going to be an extension of the well-kept front desk area. I was wrong.
I do not recommend this hotel for anyone who's looking for a comfortable place to stay, long term or short.
