The room was like going into your great aunt Mildred’s house. Our room had an old couch repaired with a sewing kit, it had old carpet with cigarette burns around bed and other spots (long ones, like someone fell asleep with a half a cig in their hand), tile in bathroom all scratched up, counter chipped everywhere because of bottle cap poppers, the gross thing I saw was when I turned on the shower and the water got into the tub a wad of hair came up that was resting on the recessed drain (absolutely gross, I couldn't even tell my wife or we wouldn't have been able to stay the night), as stated they don’t vacuum around the walls or between the bed and wall space. The only thing this room had going for it was a flatscreen tv (which everywhere has now! Funny, they are advertising the old tvs at the desk for sale for $50).
Location was good. right at the locks and restaurants and such.
Restaurant was awful, service, food, everything. We got vouchers for free breakfast. You get to pick from 4 standard breakfasts. The carpets are horrible in the restaurant and everywhere in the hotel, the decor is dusty and dated (who cares how old it is, you still have to clean it!).
It was so bad, that I wasn't paying for my room and I wanted a nice long weekend in the UP and was hoping to use this as a base but cut my trip to just one day and headed back. It was a bomb. Then the pub across the street was cool, but horrible lunch service there. I don't know if it's that everyone goes off their game when off season comes or what. The hotel didn't even interact with us in the lobby when we were hanging out one day. Check in and check out was transactional. Nobody passes on info because the am lady I told I was checking out days early and how late could I leave without being charged and she said 1. then the next lady at check out was like "you aren't suppose to leave today". sheesh. Hockey teams in town, I wasn't with them and they didn't bother me.
