Great hotel, charming drive to your door style hotel. Friendly staff and right across the street from the lock viewing area. Quiet and close to shopping, restaurants and the best brew pub we've been to in our tour around Lake Superior! Soo Brewery www.soobrew.com/ and the Palace Saloon restaurant are both just a few blocks down the street.

My wife and I recently completed a relaxing and comfortable two night stay at this well-run and well-maintained motel. We were in cabin 110, far enough off Portage avenue to provide quietude and privacy, but still only steps from the street and about 100 yards from the Soo Locks.

At check in, we were given our first glimpse of how hospitable natives of the UP really are. We were warmly greeted, checked in promptly, and advised that they would do everything necessary to make our stay enjoyable. The staff lived up to that promise.

Our cabin was spacious and clean, clean, clean. The bed would rate for comfort with any luxury bed in a four star hotel. The room was a bit dark because of all the wood paneling, but that was remedied by turning on the host of lights in the cabin. We took it as intended, up north ambience put together well.

A note on the bathroom. It's kind of querky. It intrudes into the living area of the cabin, almost as if it was an add on in days gone by. I started to think that the whole set of cabins on site might have been living quarters for those building the Soo Locks in days long past. But today they're excellently restored for modern living.

We would definately return when visiting the Soo. And we would recommend a stay here cheerfully.

We stayed at this motel because we wanted to see the Soo Locks. Part of this motel is a typical 2 story motel. Then there are cottages. We stayed in the motel. The room was large, very clean sweet-smelling and comfortable with a view of the locks. Most of all it was a great value for the price $70. for 2 people including breakfast. It was the least expensive place we stayed the entire trip and almost the best. I say almost because we had stayed in a suite at a chain hotel that I'd use point for.

We had a large picture window overlooking the locks. At 8:30 pm we noticed a hugh ship come into view. So we ran to the locks to watch up close. Had we not seen it from the room we would have missed it.

It's great to find a family run motel that's just what you need and reasonable!

Very well kept up older motel. Rooms very nicely decorated and exceptionally clean. Quiet location even though in the heart of downtown. Friendly staff. Loved the location for viewing the freighters which was just across the street from the motel and the reason for our stay. Nice continental breakfast. Cereal, pastries,breads. You could even make a muffin,egg,sausage sandwich. Our only negative comment is no WiFi in the room. However, it was available in the Lobby but we find that inconvenient. Maybe it will be in the rooms next year as we definitely plan to go back! I saw a comment on the parking being tight. We had a large truck and it was fine for us. We stayed in what is called a "cottage". So you park right in front of your own door and I thought that was nice for unpacking/loading up.
