The sign out front read, "Clean. Friendly and Affordable". Yes, it was all these things. The room I stayed in was recently refurbished with new carpet, paint, bathroom fixtures and linoleum. The complimentary breakfast consisted of make-your-own waffles, muffins, toast, yogurt, cereal, juice, coffee/tea and fruit. There was a computer in the lobby as well as Wifi service. There was a guest laundry. The front desk clerks were helpful and the check-in/out was uneventful. The motel is walking distance from stores, including a grocery, and a few restaurants and a short drive of less than 5 miles to town, the Soo locks and other tourist attractions. Unfortunately, the guests staying above me both nights had heavy feet which kept me up so I'd recommend staying on the second floor if your luggage isn't too heavy. Also, the shower gel and shampoo are one and the same so if you're serious about your hair style bring your own shampoo and conditioner. This is a no-frills hotel which I thought was a very good value.

The front desk staff was very helpful, friendly and pleasant. That's probably the outstanding quality of this hotel. Maps and brochures of surrounding attractions were available with directions explained by the desk clerk. The free breakfast was pretty basic but did the job. Our room was clean and well maintained for this being a summer tourist city. No complaints here! And the price was well below surrounding hotels, great bargain and quality basic hotel.

We stayed here in August 2011 on the way back from taking our son to college. The room we had was very large; however...the bathroom was so tiny! The toilet and tub were crammed together with no space to spare (but it WAS spotless). The sink, just a sink, was in the room by the entry door. There was NO room for any toiletries next to the sink, only a tiny corner for the ice bucket. Such a huge room but tiny sink! There was no closet, just a metal rod with hangers in the corner of the room. The king bed was the hardest I have ever tried to sleep on. I think the carpeted floor was probably softer! However, the carpet dearly needed a good cleaning. Overall, it was very quiet, until 4:30 AM when all the fishermen left (there was some type of contest going on). Our room was right next to the stairwell and I heard every step. Once I wake up, that's it - up for good. The grounds around the hotel were very nice; lots of green lawn with a swing. We did not eat breakfast here.

When you travel to the Sault, there are two categories of hotels, older properties that close to the locks, and newer properties that are on a business strip about 3-4 miles from the locks. Part of the "charm" of traveling to the UP is roughing-it. If you are expecting a Sofitel or a Ritz....not the place for you. This is a land of ice and snow in the winter and a hearty bunch of folks who call it home. Taking all of that into consideration - comparatively speaking, the Americas Best Value Inn is about average for the area. It was clean and the staff was very accomodating. Our mattress was very hard - so you should appreciate a firm mattress and pillows were reaching their point where they should be replaced. Walls are thin. So - for one night, for the price - I would say that it is only an average stay. Would we stay again? Honestly, we would probably try other properties first before rebooking.
