Had some business in the U.P. and thought staying at a casino would provide a little entertainment as well as good service. This isn't Vegas, of course, but I still expected decent service. Front desk staff and players rewards staff was wonderful. Everyone else needs a few training courses in basic manners. Restaurant cashier was so aggressive and almost hostile that I thought about checking out right then.
Again, this isn't Vegas, but I know that advanced air filter systems exist and work well. This placed stinks of smoke. Stinks. My non-smoking hotel room smelled like an ashtray. The hallways stink. So unpleasant.
Went to Dream Catchers restaurant. Menu looked fine, simple fare such as sandwiches and fish/chips. Since I wanted the fried whitefish, the waitress (who was a sweetheart, her name is Mary, such a warm and friendly server) suggested I get the buffet because the fish was provided and then I could get some sides and dessert. Great suggestion. But ugh, the food was terrible. I'm guessing some prisons have better grub. Bland doesn't begin to describe it.
Gaming: it is mostly slot machines. Table games are limited. But I did enjoy blackjack - patrons were fun and the dealer was good. I would not go back though, even if I was staying at another hotel - I wouldn't even stop over for a few hands.
The room was spacious and reasonably priced - although again it smelled like an ashtray.
