We were one of 3 couples (sisters and spouses) staying the weekend at the Wickwood.
The Wickwood costs $400+ per night in mid-October. Be sure to view their website, as it fairly describes this B&B. The food was very good, starting with hors d' ouvers and wine at 6pm (all finger foods, there were no forks). The following morning, enjoy a very nice brunch at 9am. The receipes used were all said to be from the owner/cookbook author. Fresh-baked sweets, coffee/tea, and various juices are available all day. A variety of newspapers are delivered every morning.
There are 11 rooms, and all were occupied on the October weekend of our arrival. When fully-occupied, dining room seemed crowded for brunch (not so much in the evening, as some guests seemed to be elsewhere).
As we stayed Saturday, Sunday, and departed Monday, we met all 3 of the present innkeepers (Betty was our favorite, as she interacted especially well with the guests). The rooms are nicely decorated, with lots of fabrics and pillows (our bed had 13!). The beds are soft, but comfortable. The baths are tiny (like those on cruise ships 25+ years ago). We had a junior suite (the Villa) with fireplace, but the upstairs was quite warm, and we didn't use it, though there was an overnight frost. Just about every inch of wall space throughout is covered with pictures, or other items.
There is a very comfortable living room and small study-TV room (one 28"(?) TV for the entire house--that was a problem Saturday night as those wanting to see an important Spartans football game were outta luck when a Chicago couple got there first to watch a Blackhawk game. The screened porch was a nice touch, weather permitting. Like all old homes, there are some floor squeeks (especially on the stairs and 2nd floor landing).
The Wickwood has off-street parking, the yard is attractive and has many flowers.
Saugatuck is a very attractive tourist-town with a bit of history. There are over 100 speciality shops, many restaurants, bars, and the like. The tour-boat is clean, comfortable, and the ride interesting. Everything is in easy walking distance from the well-located Wickwood.
Two nights seemed the right stay in Saugatuck, though a return visit is also possible.
Returning to the question of value...some will say the Wickwood is an excellent value; others will say it is too expensive for what is delivered. If one is accustomed to spending $400/night at an upscale B&B, the Wickwood may compare favorably.
Room Tip: Suggest you not select a jr. suite unless you are sure you will need a fireplace.
