“Enjoyed our stay!”

My husband and I recently had a two night stay at the Ship & Shore Motel in Saugatuck. We had a room overlooking the Kalamazoo River on the garden side. It was awesome, everything right at our fingertips. We parked the car and walked to all the shops, restaurants and attractions in town. The pool area with large hot tub was great! Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I would certainly stay there again if in Saugatuck!

“Perfect setting, old-school motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

We stayed one night in Sept. The location, on the water and near town, is fabulous. The grounds of the hotel are clean, with nice available outdoor decks, tables and pool. The hotel itself is definitely showing its age, which can largely be ignored if focusing on the great location. Unfortunately, the female clerk at check-in was not very friendly or attentive.
Overall, the location and proximity to town offset the hotel's age - we had an enjoyable time in Saugatuck.

“Warning.......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

I was shocked at how long it has been since this motel has been updated! It's right out of the 60's. While is was clean, it was not worth $150 per night. They are still using the old key method which is not secure. The sliding glass door in our room didn't lock and was missing a couple vertical blinds. The bathroom door didn't close all the way due to years of moisture and swelling. No vent fan in the bathroom, so the room was completely covered in moisture after getting out of the shower. The heating unit didn't work properly.
For the price of the room and considering they are booked every weekend, it's a shame the owner(s) have not invested into remodeling and updating.

Room Tip: Call ahead when booking at a place you've never stayed before. Ask when it was last updated.

“Saugatuck, a very artsy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

This is a very sweet place to relax. It has been in the town of Saugatuck for many years and continues to go through metamorphosis. Beautiful grounds, new pool and right on the Kalamazoo River in the heart of Saugatuck. Just park the car and enjoy. The service is very good and the rooms are clean. Besides your room, they have a place to play games and watch TV. They have couches throughout for just relaxing and boat watching. The town is full of great art and wonderful restaurants.

Room Tip: Just ask for "on the water".

“Great location if you don't want to drive around!”

We spent our 7th wedding anniversary weekend at the Ship "n Shore. The location was great because you could park your car and walk to restaurants and shopping. It was certainly one of the best locations in the area. The hotel is older but they do a good job keeping it up. We had an issue with the bathroom door not closing and the knob was very loose- asked if someone could fix it and nothing was ever done. We didn't expect a lot since we were there mainly for the view and the location but the bed was very good which is the most important thing. Certainly will visit again!
