As I start all reviews, please take a look and see how many hotels I've reviewed, I'm not a jaded one time traveler. I travel often and feel I have a good base to write a good overall review.
Growing up in the area, this was once "the place" to stay. Sadly I must report that the old girl is in need of a renovation asap. Now this hotel is still a solid 3 star but declining.
This hotel is very central in the Tri-Cities and perfect if you have business in the Saginaw Area.
The hotel was built in the late 70's or 80's and appears to have had its last interior renovation in the late 90's or early 2000's. The outside was just updated in the last year or two and looks great.
The interior now has a tired look and is in needs help all furnishing are in good condition but old, the carpet was clean and looks new. The room is the standard hotel layout but the bathroom was very small and old with a very low counter that at 6 foot was a bit uncomfortable to use. The walls were thin I could hear the man (i assume was a man) next door or above snoring every night. If you plan on sleeping in past 7 am good luck. The doors bang hard starting at 7 and it continues till 8:30. This is something I strongly suggest fixing as it made the stay memorable in a very bad way
The room has a fridge and micro but no flat screen, just a very old black tv and the cable has some issue that when you turn on the tv it goes to a channel with just static.
Parking was not an issue durning this visit, it has been in the past.
The workout room was lacking to say the least. This is an area of disappointment. It was small and has windows directly looking at the front desk (I find this very odd) and equipment was in ok condition. The towels were not refreshed in the gym, during my stay two of the 3 days there were no towels and one day just two sitting there. I find this very unacceptable seeing that the front desk staff use the restrooms in the workout area and I was witness to 3 staff members walking past the empty table.
The morning breakfast is good, I ordered room service which I very much prefer than going down to the free continental they offer. The room service was CHEAP! If you travel and get room service you know that just fees for RS can total $10. I got a very good breakfast of eggs, bacon, oj and coffee for $9.50 including tip.
I do find having a menu other than the door hanger for the express breakfast in the room for the other room service offerings could be very helpful. One night I would have very much enjoyed a beer and snack while up working late and sadly there was no menu.
The staff were very warm and friendly. In other Starwood properties they really go the extra mile for SPG customers, this was not the case but they were still friendly.
In the end would I stay here again? Yes. I would say another year of not updating the interior I would not be surprised if Starwood pulled their franchise as it is really not living up to the Starwood expectation.
Happy travels Cheers!
