“Stolen property and bugs.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here recently. The first problem to go wrong was a leaking pipe in the bathroom. After dealing with that for a day or two, we told the woman at the front desk who moved us to another room. We only ended up staying in that room for one night because when we woke up in the morning, we found an infestation of ants on the floor. It wasn't just one or two, but about 20. The same woman at the desk (who was the ONLY helpful one) again moves us to a different room.
After checking out of the hotel and staying at a family members house, my boyfriend gets a call from his bank saying that his credit card had 3 attempted uses on it. When he checks his pouch that had his travel stuff, he also finds his passport is missing.
The hotel is the only place he had that pouch with his backpack. The manager we talked to at the hotel about it was NO help at all.
His response was "My maids don't even speak English." and "They don't even know how to use a computer."
He made no attempt what-so-ever to assist us, or even say he would check into it.
If you value your belongings, do not stay here.

“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We got a good deal on Hotwire when we recently visited Detroit to go to a hockey game - easy access to downtown and right next to freeway. Rooms were appointed nicely enough and clean, staff were nice, and they had fruit and coffee in the lobby at all hours and a decent free hot and cold breakfast. Wifi access was good, and rooms had a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. For our purposes, the hotel was a find. Fitness room was really outdated, though, and pool area is probably very nice in the summer (we stayed in November). If you're looking for a good budget hotel, this is your place.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My husband and I actually stayed here after we got married. I hear the hotel has been here for quite some time. When I showed people pictures of our stay, others commented on how they stayed there after they got married years ago! It doesn't look like much from Gratiot, but the real sight is behind the hotel. They have a gorgeous courtyard with a large pool and plenty of nice sitting areas. We stayed in October so it wasn't open but I can imagine how nice it is in the summer time.
The room was nice that we stayed in. There was a jacuzzi in our room. The room was clean, and we didn't have any problems as far as maintenance goes. Everything worked in our room, there was even a coffee pot and a mini-fridge. It is nice having outside corridors so you don't have to go past front desk staff every time you come and go.
There are many restaurants and places to shop within walking distance, even a bowling alley right behind the hotel!
We didn't have to deal with the staff much but when we did, they were helpful and friendly. We also didn't eat the complimentary breakfast that they offer or eat in the restaurant that is attached to the hotel so I can't comment on that.

“Nice Property”

I booked this hotel because I got a really good deal. I wasn't familiar with the area, just got the hotel so I could meet up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. I was pleasantly suprised when I arrived. It's on a nice strip with lots of restaraunts and shopping nearby.
The rooms were clean and a nice size. Beds were comfortable and the pillows were amazing, I wanted to take them home with me!
The outdoor pool was obviously closed as it was November, however the outdoor courtyard where the pool is located is very nice. My friend and I sat out there for a while just enjoying ourselves. I'm sure it's even nicer in the summer!
We had a drink in the bar and the bartender was very pleasant and friendly (didn't catch her name but she had short hair) however, the front desk agent got us in our room a half hour early and seemed like it was an inconvenience. She wasn't particularly rude, just seemed bored.
Our room was just a couple doors down from the lobby, however we had a very poor internet connection. I had to keep moving my laptop around the room to get it to work, not a big deal as it was free.
We didn't have the continental breakfast but we peeked in and it looked very good: scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage Yum!
Also, the restaurant looked nice but we didn't get a chance to try it.

“Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

I stayed here on October 20, 2011 for a scheduled matter using their hospitality room. The staff, from the people who worked to arrange the room for my depositions, to the front desk clerks (morning, evening and afternoon), to room service were wonderful. I even had a situation where I needed an emergency item I had forgotten which the front desk clerk provided to me at her own expense! They were all most helpful and very friendly. Yes the room was older, but it was very very clean, the mattress was nice and everything you might need for an evening was available, including a small frig, microwave and coffee maker. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on business on the basis of the people alone.

Room Tip: I had a king room on the ground floor, very quiet and convenient.
