“For the love of all things good...Please...Turn off the alarm when making up the room!”
Well, I think I caught this hotel on a bad streak. I travel around a 100 days a year and a couple things will really set a guy in my position off. Number one offender and about the only way that Housekeeping will not get a room tip from me is leaving the clock radio alarm on. I sleep lightly and as much as I travel, really need sleep when I can get it and absolutely “lose it” when the alarm clock goes off for no good reason at (always seems like) 4:00 AM! This was once again the case at The Detroit Metro Airport Fairfield Inn. This happens a couple time a year, is hard to avoid with differing clock types at every hotel, and is a sure fire way to get a guy like me (Marriott Rewards Member) thinking about Hilton Honors, fast. On this particular stay, there is more bad news. When I arrived, I asked for a reservation on the airport shuttle for two days later and was told I was set. Upon re-checking, this was not the case. I would have missed my flight from the false assurance I had been given by the front desk. More? Two channels intrigue a traveling sales person such as myself ESPN and HBO…both of which were “No Signal” both days of my stay. Interestingly, all the other channels worked fine. Another note is that the hotel is in the flight pattern and gets loud early in the morning. I could go on and talk about the room heaters not working correctly but need to stop this negative review of the hotel. As I said, I likely caught them on a bad day and maybe got all the bad service as well. On the positive side, they did recently have a remodel and the place looks nicer than other Fairfield’s I’ve stayed in. It was clean and the staff was happy, if a bit confused. I will not stay there again due to the “alarm clock rule” which prohibits me from ever staying at a hotel where this offence occurs. Otherwise, it’s good looking and might not screw your stay up too bad.
