The Canfield House provided an excellent place for a weekend retreat. Not only was the location great (on a small lake that connects to Lake Michigan), but the B&B itself exceeded all expectations.I can only speak for the room that we stayed in, but it was very tastefully decorated and spotless with a private bathroom and shower, that were also very clean.The briekfast was served at three different times to accomodate those who rise early and those who like to sleep in. Coffee is available an hour or so before first briekfast is served at 8:30. The hosts prepare two-course (plus a scone or a muffin) gourmet meal with a variety of beverages. Both mornings that we had briekfast there, the food was exceptional and very well presented.The B&B provided enough privacy for guests not to feel as if they are invading somebody else's home, yet homey enough to feel welcomed.I mentioned briefly that my husband and I were there celebrating our anniversary and, while we were out to dinner, the hosts surprised us with a bottle of champagne and a card that they left in our room. Unexpected and very nice of them. Overall, the trip, that was a shot in the dark, turned out to be one of the most relaxing and carefree that we've ever taken. We will do our best to return every year.
