“Great hotel, great location, some service issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012 via mobile

Having returned from Normandy and staying at this hotel during our 5 day stay, this is our second time at ferme de la ranconniere and would strongly reccomed to anybody looking to tour Normandy for the d-day sites as its in a perfect location, overhaul our stay was very good, there was an issue with the hot water which I spoke to the owner about who couldn't be helpful enough. But the issue never resolved it self and I had to share bath water with my partner which I didn't expect to have to do. The staff at reception were very helpful although some of the staff at the restaurant and bar could do with smiling once in a while, I just guessed they didn't like the British. The rooms were very very good and very clean. We will go back to Normandy in the near future and I will book to stay at la ranconniere.

Very charming place with updated and highly comfortable rooms; plus the restaurant was very good, most accommodating and, of course, convenient. We were there early January when many eateries are closed but we were happy wth the bill of fare here. The service was attentive and expeditious. All the personnel throughout were most pleasant and helpful.
The only complication was that, although centrally located to visit D-Day sites, it's a bit hard to find with Google Earth Maps since the roads are not always clearly marked for "out-of-towners." Better to use a GPS.

Room Tip: Book one category up from the lowest and you'll be most comfortable for one or two people.

“Ferme de la Rançonnière”

This is a really beautiful experience with accommodation in an ancient manor-type building with huge fireplaces, four-poster beds and all mod-cons. It's really like stepping back in time. There's also accommodation in a newer building but ours was great except for the the tiny, narrow, steep stairs. Older people would want to specify their needs as everyone's needs can be catered for. The restaurant is a credit to Normandy with its abundance of fish, fowl and farm produce. It's evident that everything is local and everything is cooked to perfection with a vast and varied menu at affordable prices. One couldn't but be impressed by the effort and the pride in their own place. It's an ideal base for touring the Normandy beaches and is within easy reach of the ferry at Cherbourg. We intend returning soon. It's family run and they love what they do: it shows! Taste Normandy!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the top floor are for fit people.

“Stay here for visiting D-Day beaches”

What a wonderful place! It is very emotional visiting the Normandy beaches and it was very comforting to return to this sanctuary each evening. We booked the demi-pension and we loved our room #9. Also the food was excellent and beautifully presented.

“Incredible hotel/restaurant in Normandy”

Our first visit to the Normandy region. What a great hotel and great location!! Totally romantic. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. It was very relaxing to have a long dinner and then be able to walk across the courtyard to our room. The restaurant is truly a great restaurant and attracts many visitors outside of the hotel guests. We spent five days in Paris and then two at Ferme de la Ranconnierre - wish we had made our schedule to spend more days here! This was a great base from which to see Normandy - not far from Caen where we took the train and then picked up a rental car, or Bayeux and the Normandy beaches. We opted for a suite which was incredible given what I thought was a very reasonable rate of 165 euro per night - I can only imagine what we would have paid for similar accomodations in Paris! My wife and I are considering returning this summer with our children. I think that this would be a great place for families as well as couples. I think that they would enjoy walking around the town and using the hotel's bikes.

Room Tip: Our friend stayed in a standard room which was very nice. Not too large, but that's to be expec...
