“To relax and be cared for”

Breath-taking views on the journey up to Jardin du Segala, be warned sat nav may steer you on the wrong course. After a long and winding road, with some severe U bends, you'll arrive into the most picturesque village ever! What a find! Within a few minutes of our arrival we were sat in the beautiful gardens with a fresh mug of tea and the sun was shining. Other guests joined us and this set the scene for a wonderful holiday.
Alex is a domestic Goddess in the kitchen and we looked forward to our meals each evening. We found Richard to be a most knowledge and attentive host. The accommodation is inviting, clean, comfortable and has everything to make your stay wonderful.
Let Richard suggest what is going on or where to visit or take the walking routes that both he and Alex have checked out and made up their own individual guides to. The place hangs between the Massif Central and the Midi Pyrennes, which gives for stunning countryside to discover on foot, car or by bike. Visit the local villages, chateaus, other sites and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Follow Richard's directions they beat TomTom, then set the place as a favourite

Alex & Richard have created an idyllic place to stay in a wonderful part of France. With Alex's great food and Richard's wit it's a place to come back to.

“Very comfortable house, good food, very nice hosts - what more could you want?”

We thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay at Jardin du Segala.

The house is set on the edge of a small village in the hills above St Cere. Very quiet with beautiful views across the local countryside. Our bedroom was a good size, as was the bathroom, and, most importantly, the bed was large and comfortable.

The house itself is very nice and also comfortably furnished. Our hosts made us feel at home very easily.

Talking of hosts, there is always a sense of trepidation when you decide to use a table d’hote establishment. What will the hosts be like and their food? At the Jardin du Segala, these fears quickly vanished. Richard and Alex are a very talented couple, deftly looking after their guests without being obtrusive or overbearing, and Alex’s dinners were all well balanced and very tasty. Cleared plates every night!

St Cere is well placed if you enjoy walking, and Richard can provide walk notes and maps if required – they work well.

So, to sum up: beautiful countryside, a lovely house, really good food, helpful maps and a very nice couple as hosts – what more could you want?

Room Tip: The bedroom we used was called Le Pigeonnier and has good views across the countryside

“interesting”

I guess I understand why the Jardin du Segala is so popular with the English, it is very english in interior, owners and breakfasts. The room was nice, clean, light and VERY clean. The surrounding area is superb for walking and sightseeing.

The dinner we had had at the house was interesting, vegetarian? (I certainly am NOT a vegetarian but it was OK), however not worth the money.

The location was awkward (very difficult to reach from St Cere by a very steep road (not recognised by my tomtom) or an wider winding road but because the location it was very quiet.

We are pleased to hear that our guests enjoyed the area. Being English, it is probably difficult for there not to be an English emphasis here although we have always thought our breakfasts of croissants, breads, jams, fresh fruit salads etc are fairly typical of what you may find in any B&B here. The house itself contains many items of French furniture that we inherited when we bought the house. We are sorry that the guests did not enjoy the vegetarian main course (vegetable tagine) we served that evening. We do try and vary the menu as much as possible and it just happened that evening we did serve a non-meat course. We thank the guests for their comments.

“We're recommending Jardin du Segala to all our friends”

We had a wonderful week with Richard and Alex who are perfect hosts – helpful, easy-going and informative. The house is positioned in a gorgeous area, secluded and peaceful. We enjoyed some beautiful walks – Richard’s itineraries were superb. Alex is a great cook and one of the best things each day was looking forward to the evening meal to see what Alex would come up with next.

We have no hesitation in recommending Segala to all – whether you are keen walkers or not makes no difference – and we hope to return in the future.
