Selected Chateau de Jallanges as a one-night transit stop between Champagne and the Dordogne. We would have loved to stay longer!
Arrived close to dusk and, with no-one in sight, followed the notes pinned on doors upstairs to our room, the Louis XIV suite. We thought we were the only ones in the whole place and felt like the Lord and Lady of the manor. Old world charm with canopies over the bed, creaking floorboards, and semi-period furniture, blended with it's somewhat remote location to be a perfect stopover in France.
Well signposted from the main drive along the Loire Valley at Vouvrey, where there are also some excellent restaurants and even better Cremant de Loire!
Overall, a bit like staying in a museum. Thoroughly recommended. Next time we visit France, the Loire Valley will be high on the agenda.
