“We want to go back”

Selected Chateau de Jallanges as a one-night transit stop between Champagne and the Dordogne. We would have loved to stay longer!
Arrived close to dusk and, with no-one in sight, followed the notes pinned on doors upstairs to our room, the Louis XIV suite. We thought we were the only ones in the whole place and felt like the Lord and Lady of the manor. Old world charm with canopies over the bed, creaking floorboards, and semi-period furniture, blended with it's somewhat remote location to be a perfect stopover in France.
Well signposted from the main drive along the Loire Valley at Vouvrey, where there are also some excellent restaurants and even better Cremant de Loire!
Overall, a bit like staying in a museum. Thoroughly recommended. Next time we visit France, the Loire Valley will be high on the agenda.

“Lovely, comfortable, and sumptuous Chateau on the Loire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We stayed 2 nights at Chateau de Jallanges (10/12/11 and 10/13/11) and I would stay there again. The chateau is beautiful inside and out. Our room was also lovely, romantic and gigantic. There were glasses of champagne in our room when we arrived late in the evening The bath did take a while to fill because of the slow water pressure. But it was a really nice, big bathtub and the water was hot. Breakfast was sumptuous. So many kinds of marmalade to try and heaps of pastries, bread, cheese, fresh fruit, and other goodies. The gardens looked great. It was conveniently located for the other major chateux as well. We found the place using the Garmin Nuvi map for the Benelux countries. I told my husband that I want to come back when the chapel has been restored.

“Beautiful property, lots of extras, needs a little more work”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Our one and only Chateau overnight stay was at Chateau de Jallanges. Very difficult to find. GPS couldn't figure out the location. Beautiful from the outside. Our room was lovely and huge! Bed was rather lumpy and the carpet in the bathroom was well past its prime. Breakfast was simple but lovely with homemade violet jam! Lots of little touches like a nightcap and cookies left in the room, hot tea and coffee service available as well. A lovely stay.

“Great old manor house on the Loire area. Beautiful grounds, with centenarian trees, hedge labyrinth, rose garden, horses, etc.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011 via mobile

Grand entrance through a tree lined drive leads to impressive manor house, with beautiful grounds. Don't expect a hotel: this is high class bed and breakfast, really niche territory: grand old furniture, faded wood panelling, four-poster beds (although ours was not strictly a four-poster bed, but it had a good canopy approximation), stone fire places, deep armchairs, fabric wallpaper . Love it or hate it: we loved it! On arrival we were welcomed warmly, and after unpacking we found a glass of chilled rose' waiting for us in the courtyard (hurray!). In the evening, there was a big family party in the front garden, but the rooms face onto the back, and there was no noise at all (thick walls!). The owner maintains the house through weddings and receptions (it only has seven rooms), and it is a great place for both. It even has its own chapel. Great stay.

“very mixed feelings”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

Very overpriced for the standard. The bed linen and mattress were so tired and worn out, there was not the fresh feeling a hotel room should have. The whole place was littered with tacky bits and pieces giving a general feeling of unnecessary clutter. The bath took 30 mins to fill as the water pressure was so low.

The gardens were in desperate need of care and attention.

That said, the English owner was welcoming and the breakfast fabulous. All the guests share a large table and can chat about their travel experiences.

I feel this place would be better marketed as a bed and breakfast in a chateau, not a grand hotel. I would have been happier paying 85 - 95 euros, I bet you'd get more business at that price. Maybe you could buy some new sheets?

Good luck.
