“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

Having visited la cote de granit rose (which is just breathtaking) for the first time, my partner and I wanted to make our stay extra special by finding somewhere really stunning to eat. After asking around and trawling the net for an hour or so we decided upon the restaurant at Chateau Brelidy... By golly are we glad we did, it was simply divine.

They have just recruited a new head chef who has only been with them a month so we just had to sample his 'suggestion du jour' - a fillet of sea bass with a chorizo crust and grilled vegetables. The presentation was like something out of 'master chef the professionals' and it tasted just as good as it looked. The fish was cooked perfectly and the balance of flavours was magical. I cannot wait to see the new menu he proposes for next year, I'm not sure I can wait until April! For dessert we had a moelleaux au chocolat which was like little mouthfuls of heaven, the best moelleaux I have ever tasted.

We would definitely recommend eating here and quickly... before the chef earns his first Michelin star and the prices rocket! We honestly wouldn't be surprised and we cannot wait to try his other dishes.

Criticisms: nothing, there was nothing to complain about food wise, but perhaps they should have a wine waiter, that way you could be sure to choose a bottle that really compliments the dish.

“Delightful setting, pricey but worth it”

We stayed in the 'suite' - apparently an ex-bakehouse! - for two nights and had two dinners, both very good. The room was spacious, spotless and comfortable and had its own little terrace. The surroundings are delightful and deeply peaceful. They were also very friendly and helpful when I needed some Internet in a hurry! Could have stayed there happily for months if it wasn't for the steep price tag.

We never have hotel breakfasts in France - they are invariably a rip-off. You can get coffee and croissants in the nearest café are a fraction of the price. Alternatively, if a bar serves coffee but not croissants they will usually let you nip down to the boulangerie for some of the latter and eat them in the bar. Of course, if you're staying in the country (as per Brelidy) you may have to motor in order to find a café, but it still saves you a lot of money, in fact it will pay for an extra night on most French holidays.

“Super stay”

Imagine a small but impressive castle nested on a little hill in wild countryside, with spreading greenland, a scenery unchanged from hundreds of years. Got that picture? Well then you got this charming little, slightly hard to find (make sure you take a well-enlarged map with you ) 15th-century renovated castle. Tis delightful and the reception is welcoming and warm. We stayed for 3 nights with our 3-year old and loved our huge room with its 4-poster bed and stunning views. The only thing that slightly spoilt it- slightly, is that the bathtub\shower was set in a sloping wall and so showering was a bit difficult unless you are a pygmy. Apart from that, breakfast was lovely, (watch out for the €6.50 supplement for kids) and we had a lovely dinner too, one night. The pool looked welcoming but we, alas, didnt get to use it. All in all, we plan to return in winter so as to sit in front of a roaring fire in that heavenly fireplace. A noteof warning: make sure they dont place you in the room immediately off the dining area- what an idea.

“Avoid at all costs”

We stayed here for three nights. When we arrived we were shown to our room which was in the attic of this historical, but tired building.

There are no restaurant facilites outside of breakfast and dinner times, which themselves are only one and a half hours in duration.

The owners were downright ignorant to us when we were told that we were taling too loaud in reception. they then told us it was a "silence" hotel, which was never pointed out to us at booking time.

They moved us out of our room that we initially checked into saying that they made a mistake. They moved us to a more pleasant room in fairness but when we were checking out they tried to charge for both rooms and would not give in until, after an hour, we refused to pay anything at all.

On the second day, one of our groups members (there were 12 of us in total, taking six rooms) asked if it would be possible to get some bread rolls and some meats for a light lunch for three peosons. The receptionist / owner / waitress replyed "No, if i give you three, next you will want twelve!"

There is no elavator, they didnt offer to help my elderly parents with their luggage up three flights of stairs.

Never have we experienced such ignorance nor "we couldnt care less" attitude and i would advise you to avoid this hellhole at all costs.

“Rather disappointed”

We stayed int the Chateau de Brelidy for two nights in June 2007. The Chateau is lovely and in an imposing situation. We received a very nice welcome. We had not planned to stay there so we were a last minute booking. We were offered the suite which was the only available room. (117 euros per person per night). The suite was made up of the old chapel and a room above which was up 29 steps. Do not book the suite if you have any health problems. The sitting room area in the chapel could not be used as it was very damp and smelt very strange. The bedroom itself was very nice with lovely views but it could not be called a suite. Breakfasts were very good but we did not enjoy the food on either evening. In fact my husband and I felt that it was some of the worst food we had eaten in France. Choice was very limited, it was not well cooked and the presentation of the food was unusual. We were prepared to pay the cost of the suite for a bit of luxury for two nights but we felt that we did not receive value for money at all.

  • Liked — Comfortable bed
  • Disliked — Described as a suite - it was a damp chapel with a room up some stairs at the top
