The outside of this hotel is very nice but the family room we paid 200 euros a night for was the worst room I have ever stayed in. The room stank of damp and even leaving the windows open for 2 days did not get rid of the damp smell. The room had obviously not been cleaned wilh large cobwebs on the beams and by the side of the bed. In the bathroom a tile had fallen off the wall, the basin was dirty and the glasses to drink out of were filthy. The white paint on the tap was peeling off by the basin.
The chairs in the bedroom had cracks in the leather and looked about 30 years old. The bedding was the thinest I've ever seen and the blankets where so old you wouldn't let your dog sleep on them. Outside the swimming pool had a glass roof with green algae hanging down from the joints in the roof about 12 inches right above the water. One of the glass sliding doors at the side of the pool was just propped up against the frame leaving large gaps around it and likely to fall. The back lawn had not been cut in weeks and idealy for young children had dog dirt hidden in the long grass.
The Novotel we stayed in at Bayeux was a lot cleaner and they managed to cut the grass and have no dog mess it was less than half the price.
This chateau was converted to a hotel in the early 1970's and as far as we could tell has not been updated since then.
Please save your money and book in at a different hotel.
