“Dirty old place to stay not worth the name hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

The outside of this hotel is very nice but the family room we paid 200 euros a night for was the worst room I have ever stayed in. The room stank of damp and even leaving the windows open for 2 days did not get rid of the damp smell. The room had obviously not been cleaned wilh large cobwebs on the beams and by the side of the bed. In the bathroom a tile had fallen off the wall, the basin was dirty and the glasses to drink out of were filthy. The white paint on the tap was peeling off by the basin.
The chairs in the bedroom had cracks in the leather and looked about 30 years old. The bedding was the thinest I've ever seen and the blankets where so old you wouldn't let your dog sleep on them. Outside the swimming pool had a glass roof with green algae hanging down from the joints in the roof about 12 inches right above the water. One of the glass sliding doors at the side of the pool was just propped up against the frame leaving large gaps around it and likely to fall. The back lawn had not been cut in weeks and idealy for young children had dog dirt hidden in the long grass.
The Novotel we stayed in at Bayeux was a lot cleaner and they managed to cut the grass and have no dog mess it was less than half the price.
This chateau was converted to a hotel in the early 1970's and as far as we could tell has not been updated since then.
Please save your money and book in at a different hotel.

“elegant,but lacking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2009

Chateau itself very imposing, lovely grounds, but the room we stayed was in an annexe was gloomy, and definitely in need of some .TLC,and a bit grubby in the bathroom area,I think the rooms were a lot nicer in the Chateau itself, the staff weren;t particularly friendly, but we had a meal in the Chateau which was excellent.

“Very traditional”

We were looking for somewhere to spend 4 days incl New Years eve within easy driving distance of St Malo / Dinard airport. My sister had stayed there previously.
About 3-4 kms from the village , quite isolated, so you need a car, but within 15-20 mins of the hypermarches etc of Lamballe/St Brieuc.
Very traditional French chateau, we stayed within the main building but there are also buildings within the surroundings. We stayed in room 351, a superior room
It was euros 165 per person per night half board for a double room.
Lovely room, faded grandeur style, with colourful tiled bathroom and jacuzzi bath. Strange noise at 5am every morning which I initially thought was rodents, but after my sister pointed out they do not keep to a timetable I realised was just birds on the roof at dawn...
Staff very friendly. All other guests french which was nice.
Food REALLY good. Traditional french country food, rabbit, pigeon, deer etc. Fish also good. Too much food, we were on half board, which meant every night, an amuse bouche, starter, main course, cheese and dessert. On news years eve it was even more courses, we left at 1:30 am as course 4 was just being served....
Only criticism is that the main dining room in the chateau is very quiet, literally, you can hear a pin drop even when full of people, but I found a bit discomforting.

“Breton perfection!”

Our idea of chateau/hotel perfection was realized with this hotel. While not deluxe as in an urban hotel, the chateau and its furnishings are authentic. Comfort details like a good mattress and modrn bathroom have been well executed while the overall ambiance could take the visitor back to the 18th C. The staff were helpful and hospitable. Dinner was well-prepared and well-presented. We really hated to leave when our itinerary demanded that we move on. While we were there on a romantic vacation, there were children at the hotel who seemed to be welcome and well-accomodated.
