“Our first visit to Europe - we couldn't have hoped for a better place to start!”

We had arranged to stay at Chateau Julie (20kms outside of Bordeaux) as our first destination in France.
From the minute we arrived we were warmley welcomed by Renae and it was evident that hospitalty was not going to be an issue. The room was beautifully laid out and nothing was too much troube for them.
Our hosts (Renae and Rinze) were awesome. They offered excellent advice on where to go and what to see in the region.
The first night we hade the chateau to ourselves but were later joined by a lovely couple from the UK. A communal dining room is an excellent way to share your days experiences and swap stories about things to see or do in the coming days also. A visit for dinner to St Andres de Cubzac is a must - it gives the true French country village experince. Finding people that could speak English was a bit tricky but the locals were extremely accomodating (and it gave us a chance to test our limited French) Good options for dining.
The meals prepared by Ren (a master chef) back at the Chateau were world class and very french.
All in all I would say - gon visit Chateau Julie - you will love it!!

“Just Perfect”

Chateau Julie is just perfect... in location for Bordeaux Airport - 30 mins by car - and in style - stylish yet homely. We stayed there at the end of our holiday. It's just outside the little village of Virsav. We were blown away by it. It really is that nice. All the rooms are named after countries and we got Espagne, on the first floor. There are three large shuttered windows, in a very spacious room with seating, a desk and comfortable twin beds (put together as one kingsize). The ensuite bathroom is large - there is a bath and a separate shower enclosure, with cerise and lime coloured towels. That's the good, now for the bad. The floors are wooden so you will hear some noise from an upstairs room. It was also very hot when we were there and there is no air conditioning in the bedroom. You must have at least one meal at Chateau Julie. It was 30 euros for 3 courses and coffee. Chef Rinse presented us with a mouth-watering menu of carpaccio stuffed with rocket and pine nuts, followed by a magret du canard, then a tempting cheese selection or dessert. And of course it must be complemented with one of the chateau's own wines. Renee served a plentiful breakfast the next morning. Husband and wife team Rinse and Renee are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We didn't want to leave and hope to be back some day.

“charming!”

Excellent stay. two nights only but will return. Great hospitality, excellent food. Dutch hospitality is second to none! Good location for exploring the vineyards. Get the ferry from Blaye to the left bank of the Gironde, but the right bank is more friendly, more welcoming, better value and less stuffy! Rooms on second floor are a bit of a struggle, but lovely, large rooms.Outside dinner guests can be a bit noisy. If you are tired ask for a room away from the terrace. A gem, though.

“Fantastic accomodation with super friendly owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

During our four-day trip through the vineyards of Bordeaux we stayed at Chateau Julie. This was a fantastic experience. Why is this so good:
1. The owners (Rinse and Renée) are super friendly;
2. The food is really good and not expensive at all; (30 euro's for three courses)
3. The prizes are really good considering the size of the rooms;
4. The environment is beautiful.

For those who like to visit both the Medoc and Saint-Emilion/ Pomerol region this is a perfect point to start your daily tours. I would suggest this accomodation to everyone!

“Our fantastic France Holidays in the gite of Chateau Julie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2009

Intrested in the Chateau Julie because our (grand)doughter's name is the same.
We rented the gite for 10 days, a cosy place fully equiped with a big kitchen and furniture 2 big bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
When we arrived the host welcomed us and offered 3 bottles of Chateau Julie 2002, very attent. We also were welcomed with a drink, in our case a can of coffee.
They really did all they could do to make our stay there comfortable, and we have nothing but gratitude and admiring for them.
We would like to thank them and wish them all the best, also give the kids a big hug.
Maybe we will come again! We sure will attent our friends on this place!
