“Would love to return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Arriving after a long journey we were very impressed by Chateau Julie. Unfortunately it was raining but we still managed a walk around the grounds which would have been really good in the sun. The setting is ideal and the welcome was very friendly. Our room was excellent with plenty of space (even with 4 of us sleeping there) and a spacious, spotless bathroom. There is no choice of food yet but the meal was delicious. An excellent starter was followed by perfectly cooked duck breast, a divine dessert and accompnied by the chateau's own wine which was so good we bought some to take with us. Would love to return and spend more time there. Definitely worth visiting and would highly recommend it.

“Homely good value and comfortable”

What beautiful location and very convenient for us on a 1 night stopover, just off the motorway outside Bordeaux. Renee made us feel very welcome especially with our 4 tired kids. Would definitely stay again.

“Excellent place to stay. Stunning food. Great hospitality”

This was the second time we stayed at Chateau Julie in Virsac. It is a wonderfully comfortable place that really should be listed as a hotel, not as a B&B. Located next to the highway, it is very convenient for travelers on their way to other destinations or for those who want a nice base camp to visit region. The rooms are more than comfortable and well equipped. The chateau has a library and a very sunny reading / tea room where you relax and enjoy the classic scenery.
Please treat yourself to dinner at the Chateau when you stay there. The food is very good and the hosts are great. We had a lot of local specialties and loved the deserts. The Chateau's own wine is good and we had a few very sociable evenings.
We were there with two small children and they loved it. Having said that, I must stress that it is a mainly adult orientated place. There is just not a lot for children to do. As adults (without the kids or when they sleep) you can really relax and enjoy the better things in life.
St Emillion is just a short drive away and Bordeaux is perfectly do-able if you use the many P&R (tram) into the city.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

Stayed at Chateau Julie for 4 nights in Sept. Wonderful hosts made us so welcome. Rooms named after countries. Food out of this world- top restaurant quality. Wine from their vineyard even better. Would highly recommend and cannot wait to visit again for the peace and tranquility. Good luck to Renee and Rinse.

“Our first visit to Europe - we couldn't have hoped for a better place to start!”

We had arranged to stay at Chateau Julie (20kms outside of Bordeaux) as our first destination in France.
From the minute we arrived we were warmley welcomed by Renae and it was evident that hospitalty was not going to be an issue. The room was beautifully laid out and nothing was too much troube for them.
Our hosts (Renae and Rinze) were awesome. They offered excellent advice on where to go and what to see in the region.
The first night we hade the chateau to ourselves but were later joined by a lovely couple from the UK. A communal dining room is an excellent way to share your days experiences and swap stories about things to see or do in the coming days also. A visit for dinner to St Andres de Cubzac is a must - it gives the true French country village experince. Finding people that could speak English was a bit tricky but the locals were extremely accomodating (and it gave us a chance to test our limited French) Good options for dining.
The meals prepared by Ren (a master chef) back at the Chateau were world class and very french.
All in all I would say - gon visit Chateau Julie - you will love it!!
