This is a lovely place to stay in a busy area. The hotel is between the lake and the sea and you can walk to both and the nearby town, it provides the perfect base for the area. The hotel itself is charming, and the location makes eating breakfast over looking the lake a delight. If you are active you can get up early and do a lap of the lake (about 4 miles) before breakfast. There is a flat foot path all the way round. My girls took themselves the 500 yards to the beach every afternoon. Beware if you have very small children you might be better off letting them us the lake beaches as the sea has very large waves here and the beach shelves steeply. They hold surfing competitions here and you can see why. The town its self is very casual and surfy.
Apart from breakfast the hotel only provides a room service menu which can be eaten either in you room or on the terrace, however there are lots of resturants in the area and you can walk to them.

The staff are friendly and will speak English if you want them to. There are alot of other nationalities staying here and the atmosphere is great. The rooms do not have air conditioning but we did not find this a problem despite the hot weather. There are shutters that you can pull down whilst leaving the windows open, and alot of the rooms do not get the afternoon sun which is a mixed blessing - cool but it means your terrace is in the shade so you have to seek out sunshine by the pool or on the hotel terrace. A nice touch is the the supply of free drinks in the mini bar so there are always cans of fizzy stuff and water available. The bathrooms in the part we stayed in had just been re done, I don't know if this is true for all the rooms, but the showers were great and the rooms were kept clean and tidy by the maids.

I would choose this hotel if I had teenagers who wanted a degree of independence as they can walk and cycle on their own (there is bike hire at the hotel and in town) whilst affording a certain amount of luxury.

Wow from the view to the staff to the sheer charm of the place it's great. It's certainly earns all of it's 4 stars and more. The room is gorgeous and facilities are great. However most of all the it's the view of the lake, the fact that the ocean is only 300m away but to top it all off the staff are brilliant. They can't do enough to help you.

It's the perfect place to chill out, yet your near town if you want. Amazing seafood restaurants and surfing and cycling to be had!

My fiance and I just spent 4 nights at the Hortensius du Lac and really liked it, mainly however for it's stunning location. It sits on the edge of the lake and has beautiful views across the lake to pine clad hills on the other side. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the beach (wide, long stretches of golden sand) and the hotel has bicycles to hire which would be a nice way to cycle to town.

The area is very safe. Perfect for children and the restaurants in the area are of a good standard. The hotel was, we thought, a little basic for a 4 star hotel but then all the hotels in the area seem to be basic 2 to 3 star hotels. The main reception / bar area of the hotel was really stylish and attractive and we were a little disappointed that this style didn't quite follow through into the bedrooms. The continental breakfast was good, very fresh produce but too expensive at 18 euros per person.

All in all, we loved the area and were very happy with the hotel but weren't blown away by it like we thought we would be.
I would still recommend it however.

This hotel is perfect for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. We spent our honeymoon here and it was perfect in everyway!! It's situated on the lakeside in Hossegor and is only 200 meters from the beach and it's world class surf. The rooms are great and the majority have a lake view. We had a 'duplex suite' which also had a living area. Breakfast is served until 12 noon which is perfect if you want to sleep in or go for a morning surf. The staff are all very friendly and will go out of there way for you.

We hired bikes which is a great way to get around as restaurants and bars are all within 1 km. The entire area has cycle lanes so you feel safe. The sandy beaches are beautiful but if you don't fancy the beach, you can always relax by the hotel pool or the lake. It really is a special hotel in a beautiful part of France and we would not hesitate to go back.
