This is an absolutely charming, small hotel, located on the curve of a river with beautiful views from each room. Ours was the "Rose Room" which was spacious and pretty with large bathroom, walk-in shower and jacuzzi bathtub.
But the real star of this property was its creative young chef, Frederic Pilon. Before-dinner nibbles (either served outdoors beside the river or in front of a roaring fire) varied each evening--stuffed quails' eggs, scallop tartare, frogs' legs ground with nuts and deep-fried (and that was just the first night!) Our 4 dinners there were just amazing. His cepe soup with crisped escargots appetizer was TO DIE FOR! In fact, it was so good that we asked to have it another evening.
Frederic's wife, Kristen, is a skilled, knowledgeable server and we often relied on her for suggestions from Frederic's varied menu. We were NEVER disappointed and looked forward to dinner each day like we never have before in our 20+ years staying in France.
We can think of nothing that could have made our 4 night stay better and we highly recommend Manoir d'Hautegente to anyone visiting the Dordogne area.
