“Room with a view”

I stayed at the Hotel Arnold for five days. Rooms very clean and well maintained. Friendly staff, marvelous views. At the backside it was very quiet. Room could have used an airco on the hotter days. Breakfast was reasonable, buffet-style.
Meals in the Winstub between good and average. The smaller the quantities, the better the quality; and some times the portions were huge (!). The restaurant was busy every afternoon and evening. The wines were average, with one positive exception, the Auxerois.

“Peaceful, relaxing, great view of vineyards from balcony”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

We stayed here after a bad hotel experience in Strasbourg. It was lovely. Booked it the day of through a visitor's bureau on the Route des Vins. Luckily, a room with a balcony overlooking the vineyards was available for a reasonable price.
The hotel is part of the Arnold compound, which includes a winstub/restaurant across the street. There frankly isn't much else in Itterswiller, but that was fine by us. We just needed a chance to relax and catch up on some sleep.
The room was quite large, with a nice-sized bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We ate dinner at the Arnold restaurant because it was so convenient. We weren't expecting great things, but the meal turned out to be very good. We had some of the best boudin noir we ever ate. And the wine was fantastic and reasonably priced. And the hotel serves a nice breakfast spread.
We later wished we had stayed a second night. Recommended if you need to unwind.

Lovely, clean, attractive rooms, great breakfast and friendly staff, with some English spoken. Their restaurant across the street had great food and a lovely atmosphere. We'd stay here again.

“somehow not what it used to be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

we stayed at this hotel before, but somehow liked it much more then. All in all quite noisy and the breakfast really should be a bit more elaborate for that price. Our biggest dIsappoint though was the restaurant at the other side of the road. We used to indulge ourselves over there but now - with a new chef added to the kitchen staff - the food was a far cry from what it used to be: very mediocre, crude in taste, lacking delicacy, intimidating big portions. Standard tourist stuff. A real bummer as we specifically came here for the Arnold restaurant. Not any more, I am sorry to say.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

This hotel is in a small village where the most picturesque thing about it is the hotel itself and its various buildings and its restaurant which is housed opposite to the main building that houses the reception. With all respect to the village, there is just nothing to see there. That is saying something considering one is in the region of charming and picturesque villages that is Alsace. I do not believe we were even able to find a boulangerie. So if you are inclined to skip this hotel's very overpriced breakfast, there aren't that many options in the morning other than hopping into the car and driving to Colmar or the like some distance away. Short stroll through the village quickly revealed that the hotel's so-so (as we discovered) restaurant is the only decent dining option of note. So if you are after something charming and special, with little shops to peruse, pick another village, such as Riquewihr, or Kaysesberg, or Eguisheim and the like.

We needed a stop over hotel on the way to south of France so it was adequate, though we were housed not in the main hotel building but a 70s renovated annexe on the opposite side of the road adjacent to the hotel restaurant and shop. The rooms and balcony had corresponding 70s brown dingy decor, though it was tolerably clean. Although the annex building looked charming from outside (see pics), it faced onto the car park and the main road, it was noisy, and with no aircon to speak off windows had to be left open - so bring your ear plugs. That building also has a bar etc downstairs when they have seminars or conferences hosted, so it is likely also to be noisy at such times, I would ask to stay in the other building or a room facing some other way.

The rooms themselves not particularly big, bit dark and although ours offered a little balcony it was not particularly inviting as sound proofing is not their strong point, so prepare yourself for some loud German late into the night should you leave the balcony windows (and the only ventilation in the room) open. Bathroom is rather old fashioned with bygone era features and with no shower screen so water goes everywhere - but it is very clean (though no amenities to speak of and useless little hair dryer).

Service was non-existent,and we were so unfortunate as to have a huge vigneron party at the football oval further down the vine fields which is in the same direction as the hotel that played loud dance music (earplugs didnt help it was that loud) till 4am in the morning with hotel having or offering no information when it would stop or when the law in France requires it to stop - they simply didnt care. Nor did they warn of the event taking place even though the knew about it for many months in advance and we booked only few days before. Not good enough, I was deprived of the option to book elsewhere., not to mention sleep. Overall not a great value for money at €118 per night with NO breakfast included. For all the reasons above, even for an overnight Alsatian stopover I would pick another hotel to stay in.
