One main and a couple of other blocks which are only 2 floors high, well situated just outside the walls of Khiva. Food (breakfast) was yummy!!! Rooms were a little small but that really didn't matter as perfectly clean and with ensuite.

I was pretty shocked to see some of the other reviews. I see no reason whatsoever to pick this property. There is absolutely nothing distinctive about it. It is close to the gates of the old city but other properties are actually within the city walls which makes them much more charming.

The property is clean and reasonably comfortable but completely devoid of charm and farther from the main tourist sights than properties within the old city. The only potential plus I can think of is the pool; however, it was drained and inaccessible during our visit (June!).

If I were to return to Khiva, I would pick one of the two Malika properties or the very centrally located Hotel Kheivak. Another traveler that I spoke to stayed at the LP recommendation and loved it (can't remember the name). We ate at the Kheivak and visited the Malika properties -- hard to be at Hotel Asia and not walk away with hotel envy.

Note: Hotel Asia does not offer internet access. Kheivak offers free wireless and dining in a lovely outdoor setting where you can lounge on day beds and stare up a the nearby minaret. We visited Kheivak every day of our stay. Non-guests at the Kheivak get unlimited internet access with a purchase of $2 USD. Speeds are slow but definitely better than nothing!

We stayed just the one night at found the room very similar to other Asia hotels, fairly plush and spacious. We stayed in a back block and the porter and receptionist were extremely friendly and keen to practice their english.

Our curtains were fine however the shower curtain clattered around our ears and proved to be impossible to put back! Unlike other hotels in the chain, our experience was that bathroom was fully functioning.

The buffet food was fine.

This was a first night stay on a tour of Uzbekistan.

Food was OK - $11 for an evening buffet and the breakfast was the best selection we got on the trip.

We were in a back block but only a short walk to the old town - take a torch.

Staff were friendly.

Bought some little watercolours in the hotel lobby - didnt see such nice ones on the rest of my trip.

The pool was not in use.


However, when the curtain partly fell down I remembered the previousTrip Advisor review. A fellow traveller had her whole curtain rail come off too..... Take a screwdriver??
