“We were delighted by our honeymoon suite!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011 via mobile

I am surprised to read so many negative reviews of Halali. We spent 2 nights recently in the Rhino Honeymoon Suite and loved it! We had just spent 3 nights at Onguma which, while more luxurious, didn't compare in terms of value for money and accessibility to the park. We have been married for 20 years so our perceptions are not colored by rose-tinted honeymoon lenses and we have stayed in several private and government owned bush resorts in Southern Africa. We loved the twin showers, glass window above the bed for nocturnal stargazing, and our hot tub was clean and a delightfully private alternative to the Halali pool. Dinners were buffet-style and pretty average but the breakfast omelettes were great and a highlight was that the omelette chef showed us the daytime sleeping perches of resident Scops and Barn Owls. There had been a lot of rain so the waterhole was not very busy but we did see 6 rhino the one evening. And for all this we paid N$600 pp/night! We'll be back!

“Recommend this Campsite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

The campsite is located 70km from Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park. We had a very good site at a less popular camp ground (compared to Okaukuejo). The amenities were clean & there is a lovely pool & restaurant area. The shop was well stocked.
The floodlit waterhole viewing area is a rocky outcrop with quite uncomfortable seating. We opted to take a chair up & sit on the rocks which worked very well.

“Hideous room - very low standard but expensive”

I booked 4 of us into 2 honeymoon suites as this was all that was available. Boy what a disappointment. The rooms had no doors to bathrooms - I wasn't aware that on a honeymoon you enjoyed sharing all of your bodily functions with your new partner?? The rooms were scruffy and the floors were dirty. Our front door was broken and made a horrible noise everytime it was opened or closed. The back yards of both had hot tubs in but by the look of them they hadn't been functional for months if not years - one was full of filthy green water with hundreds of dead (and some live) insects in - the other was empty and full of sand and dirt. Really really disappointed - give Halali a miss and stay at Okakuejo or Namutoni.

“Poor quality staff always stems from the top!”

Etosha National Park is a wonderful place. Halali in itself is a wonderful spot with a great waterhole but unfortunately I cannot say the same for the management & reception staff at this resort. They have been consistently the worst I have ever had to deal with in many years of international travel. In a nutshell they are arrogant and cannot be bothered. I have watched many a traveller leave reception in frustration. The shop (if you can call it a shop) has for years has been a joke. Forget about stocking it with traveller's requirements. The main product is alcohol - If you experience problems here, mark my words "you will need a stiff drink!" I recomend that travellers, If possible stay at a lodge just outside the park entrance and drive in daily or stay at Okaukeujo. Everything is 100% + better.

“Run down and overpriced”

You pay the same price to stay at Halali as for the other Namibian Wildlife Resorts (NWR) in Etosha, but it's far less quality. The website is a big lie. We had our own little brick house, but it was badly furbished, only one bedlight switch and NO CURTAINS! Everybody can look in your bedroom. They have put up some fancy straw blinds, but they are see through. The CANTEEN (yes that's what the restaurant actually is) looks like a 1970ies USSR complex. The food is OK, but you have to be there early, otherwise nothing is left on the buffet. Then there is a huge olympic size swimming pool, but only 6 broken dekchairs covered in bird droppings. Avoid Halali when you are in Etosha, it's a disgrace for NWR!

Room Tip: the camping is perhaps better value for money than the "bush" chalets (= little brick hous...
