“Recommend this Campsite”

The campsite is located 20km from Andersson Gate at Etosha National Park. There is an old German Fort Tower to walk up with a great view from the top. We had an adequate site at a popular camp ground. The amenities were clean & there is a lovely pool & bar. The shop was well stocked. The floodlit waterhole was very well set up with plenty of chairs for everyone to view the animals. Beware that the jackals will take anything you leave lying around your campsite at night.

“Disorganised but the water hole is a jewel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Over our two nights stay in Okaukuejo Restcamp we experienced inconsistent service (make sure to book your dinner table each night in advance!) and adequate food. All accommodations were well spaced out. Our chalet N85 was very spacious, clean and in close proximity to the entrance leading to a great waterhole. Fridge, tea facilities, good towels and toilet paper, no safe, no TV (and you won’t need it!), basic pool facilities (towels not provided).

The jewel of this restcamp is its water hole, with many benches for viewers and is flood lit at night. We witnessed some amazing scenes there: many zebras and wildebeest, few giraffes, elephants and rhinos. It also holds abundant bird life.We saw some beautiful sunsets over the water hole as well as from a top of the Tower.

Filling forms when checking in did not take too long but you do need to pay US$50 or N$500 as a deposit. Our check out was beautifully quick.

“Loved the waterhole!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

We spent the majority of our Etosha trip staying in a lodge outside the park, but were keen to spend a night here to experience the waterhole as well as to get an early start on game driving the next morning. We are so pleased that we did, as sitting by the waterole at night, sipping a glass of wine and watching a constantly changing parade of animals was a phenomenal experience, and one of the many great memories of our Namibia trip.

Given the many negatives reviews of Okaukuejo, I had fairly low expectations of the resort, especially as we had really enjoyed our accommodation outside the park, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our bush chalet was directly behind the waterhole chalets, so just a quick walk to check out the action at the waterhole. It was clean and spacious, with a kitchenette, good aircon and bathroom, braii and outside seating area. The staff we dealt with were pleasant and polite, though as expected the food was ordinary and overpriced. I'd consider this to be a minor quibble, however, given the location of the resort and the quantity and quality of animals we saw at the waterhole. I highly recommend at least a one-night stay here.

“Completely satisfied”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

I booked a waterhole chalet for 2 nights but could only get 1 night and 1 night in a normal chalet / frankly I preferred the second night which was approx 15 metres behind the first 1 but larger, with a kitchenette and seating area both inside the chalet and outside. Both had mosquito nets, mini fridges, kettles and in the second one a kitchen sink. In any case, the first chalet was still 20 metres from the wall. I found staff to be very helpful, at least with me; the waterhole was amazing, you take a drink/cup of tea/whatever out to sit down for as long as you like at the hole. It is a silent spot, floodlit at night with a low wall separating you from the animals that are drinking less than 10 metres away. My first night we had 9 rhinos, 3 elephants, 9 giraffe and one lioness at the same time - the interaction amongst all the animals was very interesting. That was apart from the "usual" herds of elephants, zebras, water buffalo and lesser odds and sods!,nd wait for the animlas to come. I had dinner and breakfast and found both to be sufficient as they were buffets.

“Best accommodation in Etosha”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Stayed at a bush chalet and really enjoyed it! Braai facilities allowed us to make our own food and the chalet was spacious, clean and friendly. We were close to the water hole, which must be the best in the park.Unfortunately Etosha had a huge fire a month ago and huge tracts of land are completely burnt and not inhabited by any animals. This is particularly noticable on the way from Halali to Namutoni where we saw very little wildlife.I can recommend Okaukuejo very highly if you are self-catering.The service at the restaurant seemed very slow and staff were not particularly friendly.Lots of tourists at this park as well.
Also remember that you have to pay Park entrance fees of R 30.00 per day and at the resorts you have to pay a R 500.00 deposit for the key to make sure it is returned. That is refunded to you in the currency you paid in.Lovely place!
