“GREAT FOR LONG STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

I've been at this location for almost 6 months. I'm staying in a two story loft 'penthouse.' Things have been great. I have a room as far from the freeway as possible and its really quiet. I've never heard my neighbors and some have stayed with dogs. I get called when my mail arrives. The staff is SUPER friendly and know me by name. The laundry room could use some work...the machines are temperamental and don't always work well. The kitchen is not as fully stocked as I'd like but I bought my own frying pan and a few other small utensils. My furniture is NOT old and frayed. Things are clean and not stained. Some of the towels are a little thin and could use replacing. One of the blankets is a little worn but the room, overall, is in great shape. No problems with the cleaning staff. Sure, after 6 months there have been a few times that they didnt get to my room, but I survived. I have two TV's, when I first got there the bedroom TV was an old tube style TV but it was replaced by a brand new flat panel TV. I love the place and the people! No real complaints. I look forward to getting back to my room after work each night and have really enjoyed my stay...I'm still there. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms away from the freeway. I think building 5, 6 and 7 are the quietest. I'm on an...

“Great Family Place but Not Perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

This was a hard hotel to review because on the surface it looks perfect - close to highway and Oakland mall, family friendly, and unique town house style... but for subtle reasons we weren't entirely comfortable and relieved to leave. We stayed in the two-floor two-bedroom which has a nice design and is perfect for families. The hotel staff is extremely friendly (and so are other hotel patrons) and the whole place has a residential feel to it. There is a swimming pool, basketball courts, barbecue area. The breakfast is terrific with lots of choices including at least 4 hot items (e.g., scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes etc.). There is also a free "dinner" every night.

Although I think most families would be really excited to stay in this kind of hotel, it is an older facility and there were some drawbacks. For example, the townhouses have a smart layout but it still felt crammed and tight. The furniture was comfortable but old with stains/frays. There were three TV's (two large flatscreens) but only a handful of basic channels so nothing really to watch. Having central A/C was terrific but only a one degree difference on the thermostat between being freezing or stifling hot. There was a full kitchen but only enough utensils for a family of 4 and not too many things like pots and pans which we usually find in extended stay hotels. Some days the housekeeping cleaned really well but others not so much. Although the hotel staff was terrific, the housekeeping was a bit sketchy. Once one of them tried to enter the room when we had a "don't disturb" sign on the door, and another time one entered and looked flustered when she saw us and said "you're still here?!". Both times the rooms had already been cleaned so why are they coming back into the rooms with no cleaning supplies or anything later in the afternoon when they think we are not in the room? But we didn't notice anything missing.

In short, I think a lot of families or individuals would be thrilled to stay in this kind of residential facility especially if you're staying for an extended time, and it has a safe and fun environment to it... but it just wasn't the place for us.

“Nice find if you can overlook the age and layout”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

Nice hotel. Nice staff. Convenient to the highway. Clean rooms, bathrooms, and towels. The room layout is fine with a living room and kitchen.

The hotel is old and renovated but not recently. The complex's layout seems as if this once was an apartment or condo location. There is a bunch of road noise from the highway.

Breakfast and dinner were provided every night which helps out with the budget.

Nice staff.

2 boys & 2 adults such a homey, comfortable place. the staff was fantastic, the rooms clean and the pool was very clean. all of the units are only 2 story and relatively close to the office and pool.the kitchen was good, all items necessay were there (bring additional paper plates if you dont want to wash after each use) wi fi signal excellent in all of the rooms and free, parking right in front of the door. we took the boys to the detroit zoo, only 8 minute drive (ok, took us 20 with 2 u turns) my only complaint, i am not used to such hard hard beds. our loft unit even stayed cool upstairs we will come again thats for sure found this using trip advisor reviews

“Nice place and great Marriott service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

We stayed here for a week while moving out of the Detroit metro area. First of all, to counter a comment that said that the area might not be safe -- I lived just a few miles from this property for 10 years and know the area like the back of my hand -- it IS safe. Stephenson Highway is industrial and not exactly lovely, but the area is as safe as any big city suburb. This hotel is also close to Oakland Mall, lots of stores and a number of chain restaurants. The hotels in this area cater to business men and women as well as to Canadians who cross the border to shop over the holidays.

We stayed in a loft room for 3 days. The style of this Residence Inn is older, but the rooms have all been renovated, with granite counters and modern colors. The adults slept upstairs in the loft and the kids slept on the Murphy bed and roll-out couch downstairs. Both of these were fine for the kids, but I could not have slept on them (yes, I tried them).

My husband had to stay longer and switched to a single bedroom room. He said that the smaller room was nicer than the loft room and he really enjoyed his stay. The beds were comfortable (he is VERY picky about mattresses).

There is a nice outdoor pool and basketball court. The people working at the desk were very friendly.

My only complaint was that the breakfast room is clearly too small for the number of guests. Most guests brought their food back to their rooms.
