“Lovely resort with charm and character”

Upon arrival at the dock our luggage was sent on to the hotel and we decided to walk to the resort. The hotel grounds are beautifully landscaped. The front lawn faces the shore and is dotted with adirondack chairs where guests were relaxing with books or picnic lunches. Our room was so pleasant. I loved the fact that we could open the windows to take in the crisp, clean air and the lake view. The food in the restaurant was well-prepared and delicious. My 2 yr old and 4 yr. old granddaughters were entertained by the staff. The waiters and waitresses were so attentive. We requested a sitter for one evening and she was delightful and was a real hit with the children. Looking forward to a return trip in 2012.

“Wonderful!”

What a great place to stay! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The large, airy dining room is informal, and the food is well prepared and delicious. We celebrated our friends' 50th wedding anniversary in a private dining room with French doors that were kept open so we could see the lake. Staff could not have been more accommodating. The buffet was the best any if us had ever eaten. Imagine perfectly cooked fish on one platter and perfectly cooked filet mignon on another. All vegetables were fresh and crisp. Desserts were amazing.
Get a room overlooking the lake.

“HotTub Suite”

Upon check-in, we enquired about available upgrades from our TravelZoo deal. Accepted the $50 upgrade to a hottub suite. Located on an outside terrace, it's completely secluded (fortunatly for us since we hadn't packed any appropriate attire). Despite damp-cool weather (certainly not MP's fault), the spa is completely covered, so the drizzle didn't put a damper on things). Since mid-October is very end-of-season, many of the facilties were closed or on reduced hours or functions.

“One of our best vacations ever!”

My family and I spent a great week in Mackinac Island for vacation this summer. We loved everything about our experience including Mission Point Resort. The location is great. It is away from the crowds downtown, but close to everything. We enjoyed the recreational activities that the hotel offers including the bike rentals, the movie theatre and the exercise room. We even went kayaking.

The restaurants at the resort were great. We had dinner in Chianti and it was an extremely memorable evening. The food and the service were superb. It has an excellent menu with a variety of Italian choices. Dessert is not to be missed. We also had lunch at the Bistro out by the lake. It is a beautiful setting and loved being able to have lunch outdoors. The menu is upscale and has very unique offerings, particularly for lunch. Each morning we enjoyed breakfast in the Round Island dining room. Everyone in the family enjoyed it.

The resort is older and that is what gives it its charm. Mackinac Island is a unique destination. We enjoyed the charm of the Mission Point Resort.

“Go in early autumn for great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed at Mission Point Resort at the end of September for five nights. We paid around $100 for each queen room, each night. It is a little bit of a walk out of the town center, but if you don't mind, it's actually quite nice and the grounds of the resort are really lovely. And of course the horse carriage taxis are always available to hire, too. We found the interior of the lodge impressive and very interesting. Old photos showing its construction were fascinating, and the huge wooden beams were breathtaking. Cozy fireplaces blazing away were also a nice touch, and we spent every evening playing train dominoes down in the lobby next to a fireplace. We were also very pleased with our rooms and found their decor and cleanliness to be of a high level. They are on the smaller size for an American room, with the bathrooms being particularly "cozy," but it was fine. The shower was powerful and hot, even during peak times. My only complaint about the room was that early in the morning, when guests in other rooms were showering, the pipes would make a very, very loud noise and wake us up.

We had breakfast every morning in the restaurant ordering off of the menu and skipped the buffet as it seemed a little pricey and we couldn't eat enough to make it a good value. On the other hand, ordering off of the menu also wasn't cheap. We were also a little confused as to what came with the pancakes as some mornings it came with bacon or sausage, and some mornings it didn't. My husband also was offered a refill on his juice one morning, and then wasn't on the next day. The staff were all fairly pleasant to very friendly, so no complaints there.

Another note on the food options: at this time of the year, the only nighttime food options at the resort are the upscale Italian restaurant, and the cafe that serves slices of pizza, salads and deli sandwiches. We weren't interested in the Italian restaurant so we never ate there, and we ate at the cafe one evening when we were too tired to go into town. We ordered big chef salads which were just fine. In general, we tried to avoid being stuck at the resort in the evenings as those were our only food options and we felt it would have been nice if a "middle of the road" sort of restaurant with more affordable entrees had been open. (I think there is one in the summer season).

The grounds of the property are absolutely beautiful, and we really enjoyed wandering all around. We also took advantage of renting bicycles one day from the resort, so that was really convenient having them there to rent.

All in all, we were very pleased with our experience and felt that at this time of year it was good value for the money and a very nice place to stay.
