“A grand lady needs some TLC”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The Embassy Suites in Livonia has been a great hotel with great service. Unfortunately the grand lady has now seen better days. The rooms are dated and in need of serious cleaning. The front desk staff are pleasant and well trained; the rest of the staff leaves a lot to be desired.
I am a "diamond" Hilton customer which means I spend considerable amount of time in Hilton properties and decided to visit family in the Detroit area and use some of my free nights to stay at this facility.
Check in went smoothly but there is no bell staff so it is up to you to move your belongings up to the room. I could not locate a cart so this was a real challenge to get everything up in one trip. The room was very aged and looked it. The furniture needs to be replaced and I have not seen a large screen analog TV in years, this thing must have weighed 200lbs!
The beds were old and the mattresses were very soft and uncomfortable. The blankets on the bed were very thin and old which is odd as even the Hampton Inns have very nice linen. As a Diamond member I anticipate that the rooms that are assigned will be one of the better units in the hotel and if this is the case this hotel has some very old rooms. Our room was on the expressway side of the building and right next to the dog friendly room!! Two large dogs barking all night what a thrill.
The breakfast area is well stocked but the staff takes no control over guests who do not follow the rules. There were kids in their pajamas with bare feet running all around and parents who also decided that pajamas were the correct attire for this area also. The kids were also helping themselves to food with their bare hands which is really unsanitary. I mentioned this to the supervisor and was told that this behavior is wrong and would be corrected. The same behavior was noted the next day so I guess the staff never got the memo.
The cleaning people were either very slow or understaffed as our room did not get refreshed until 5:00 pm. As we had a dinner engagement I asked the woman to return in 1/2 hour as we needed to get ready. When we returned at midnight she never came back so the bed was half made there were no towels or soap in our room and it was never cleaned up. I had to get up and go down to the desk to get someone to bring up the necessities we needed to get ready the next day.
I would tell anyone that is traveling to this area to use the Novi Garden Inn or the Hampton Inn instead of this property.

Room Tip: Go to the Garden Inn or get a room away from the freeway and the breakfast area.

“An old friend, never disappoints!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Over the past 15 years I have logged many nights at this hotel. I have also stayed at several others close to this location, and there is simply no comparison. The front desk associates are always friendly and helpful. When you throw in the free evening drinks, coupled with the cook to order breakfast, it would be tough to beat the overall deal. Yes, the interior of the building is looking a little tired, but Detroit like so many mid west cities have suffered in this poor economy. The hotel is clean and very accommodating. I would challenge any negative critics go stay in any near proximity hotels and then do an honest evaluation of this hotel.

Room Tip: Any room is good

“Embassy Suites Not so Sweet”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel is extremely dated! I arrived at night and from the outside it looked up to par for Embassy standards. Upon entering the hotel I was immediately overcome by the stale smell of either mildew or must. At the check-in desk I noticed that the walls behind the desk were stained and that a door adjacent to the desk had a large hole in it as if someone had punched it through. After checking in I proceded to the elevator which was extremely slow and when I stepped in it, I felt it shake as if it was about to fall (except I was already on the first floor). I hoped that the room accomodations would make up for my first impression, but I was wrong, it only got worse. The room was just as dated as the lobby. The bed linens were terrible. There were holes in the bed spread and obvious stains on the sheets. I felt so uncomfortable that I didn't event sleep in the bed, but on top of the bedspread on top of a sheet that I had brought with me. The worst part of the entire experience was the bathroom. In it's supposed clean state, it was deplorable. The shower curtain was dingy, the "white" towels were an old shade of grey and needed obvious replacement. The bottom of the tub was blackened to the extent that no amount of bleach was going to regain the color. Lastly and most nastily there were so many hairs in the tub and on the floor that I gave up trying to wipe them up with tissues. I was scheduled for a two week business stay. I left the next morning! As I checked out I spoke with a shift manager and she was very empathetic, understanding and friendly, She requested my feedback, listened to it and even tried to make apologies for it. She acknoweledged that they know about the challenges that the hotel has, but until the Hilton Corporation decides to do some major renevations, there isn't much that they can do. To sum it up, I would say, stay at your own risk, but don't expect it to be the normal level of Embassy Suites accomodations.

Room Tip: My first room was changed because they put me in a double bed room even though my request was for a...

“Embassy Suites Livonia MI Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stay here with a skating team. The hotel staff was super nice and helpful very accommodating. The hotel was clean it is very large inside.. Kids loved the open balcony. Rooms were standard Embassy Suite style, probably on the older side but well kept. Breakfast was awesome as usual for Embassy Suites. Great Experience would come back!

“Embassy Suites, Livonia/Novi, MI”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

What a great experience ! Got a super rate for 4 nights at this wonderful hotel. First, I never heard a staff member say the word 'no'. Such a 'can-do' attitude by all. Accommodations consisted of a 2-room suite: separate bedroom with comfy king-sized bed and 5 pillows of varying firmness, closet unit, TV armoir, 2 nitestands, table & chair, and a sitting room with sofa (I think it might have been a sofa-bed), coffee table, desk & chair, another TV, a bar sink/counter, microwave, fridg & storage, plus the bathroom which was nicely-sized. The suite was clean and quiet. My pet peeve is cleanliness in the bathroom and the corners in mine could have been a bit better (that's why I didn't give it an 'excellent'). The climate control was fairly quiet. The lobby/atrium was like a rain forest with a waterfall & river running all through. All of the rooms are on common balcony-floors which are open to the atrium below. My room also had a private balcony which, if it was summer, would have been nice to have the sliding glass doors open. I was attending a dog show with a service/show dog and the staff was very accommodating to him ($50 dog deposit). On one end of the hotel (outside) there was an area for doggie bags/disposal, which I used, and it was right by one of the auxilliary doors. There were nice areas to walk the dog as well. My only complaint was that the wireless internet in the rooms was very slow at times. The staff said that there was a scrapbooking convention going on and that the attendees were downloading files, clogging up the system. The complimentary cook-to-order breakfast is probably the best of any hotel I've ever stayed at, and there was also an evening complimentary manager's reception. The pool was nice and had a great waterfall feature. I would stay at the hotel again and highly recommend it. In a good area..I felt safe walking the dog on the property...and lots of shopping/restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: ask for a room across 'the bridge' on the 4th or 5th floor
