“Upside: great location to access the...”

Upside: great location to access the keewanaw peninsula, neat architecture and interesting history.

Downside: large B&B equals many guests, buffet breakfast was surprisingly small (entire service less drinks fit on a 2 by 6 foot table), while well maintained all old buildings still have a certain set of issues.

Overall: I believe most guests have a great experience. Based on many B&B stays, I was unimpressed.

“Very Very Nice!”

We really enjoyed our two nights at the Laurium Manor. Very impressive old building that retains a lot of the "flavor" from 100 years ago. Complaints about cracks in plaster and bathroom tile, lack of "spotlight" lighting, not following the cancellation policy when they could have filled rooms with customers?......boo hoo you other reviewers! Realistic expectations for me were more than fullfilled! Did have a really bad experience at the Bosch Brewery in downtown Calumet....avoid avoid! Had a really nice experience at the Irish Times in Laurium.

“Rude!”

If you make a reservation, be certain you keep it. My husband and I were delayed on our trip due to weather and needed to cancel our plans to stay at the Laurium Manor. I called three times and left messages to cancel and asked that a return call be made to confirm the cancellation was received. When the reservation clerk returned my call, he told me I would have to pay for the night's stay. Although no confirmation was sent nor discussed when I made the reservation, I was supposed to know there was a 7-day cancellation policy. Of course, my reservation was made less than 7 days prior to my stay. When I questioned the cancellation policy, he hung up on me. What kind of customer service is that other than just plain rude. Run as fast as you can!

“Loved this place”

We recently spent two nights at the Laurium Manor Inn and thoroughly enjoyed the place. The staff was very pleasant. They went out of their way to guide us in our sight-seeing and in recommendations for places to eat.

We had the master bedroom and it was spacious with a king bed and a double bed--which we didn't need but it would be nice for families, mother-daughter or girlfriend trips.. The place has quite an history and this made it most interesting. The restoration has been very well done. We found the room to be very well lit and did not feel the place was dark as some reviewers stated. Since the breakfast was a buffet, it was available for a couple of hours in the mornings. We liked the freedom that this allowed vs. other B&B's that want you there at a certain time. The evening cookies were delicious.

It is a place for couples wanting a quiet getaway, girlfriend trips and for those who enjoy historic inns. We would certainly go back.

“Trip back in time.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2010

We have stayed at the Laurium Manor Inn countless times and were one of the first customers when Dave and Julie initially opened up. They have always made us feel at home and welcome. We LOVE the Laurium Manor. People who enjoy reliving the grandeur of the past will enjoy it. It will not be for those who expect the most up-to-date gadgets and lighting, etc. It is for those who savor and appreciate the grandeur of another time. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The Laurium Manor is truly one of the most beautiful mansions around. I do think over the years, Dave and Julie have branched out and hired more staff, so we don't always see them personally. But that is to be expected when people run a large operation. We have always met interesting people there. Julie has great taste in everything she does. It is difficult to take a very old structure and make everything modern while keeping the historic atmosphere. Our three kids have always enjoyed staying there. They find it spooky and interesting.
