“Comfortable and delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

It was our first from the book 1000 Places to See! The staff and owners were friendly and gave such a lovely history of the homes. You could wander and tour their houses ...playing the piano, listening to the old record player. We stayed in the balcony room, which was a treat in itself. Relaxing evening on the porch swing, then wonderful comfort in bed!!! Sweet sleep it was. Ahhhhhh! The breakfast was OMGoodness delicious!!! Rosemary baked eggs, bacon, biscuits, homemade jelly, fruit, scones....all very yummy. With the great vacation adventures nearby this B&B is a natural choice to rest your feet.

Room Tip: For a real treat I'd recommend the room with the balcony! Pack lightly to carry your suitcase up...

“A Fun Victorian Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Two of my college friends and I recently took a week-long trip from Madison, WI through to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Autumn was at it's height and we had a great trip. Since none of us had ever stayed in a Victorian B&B, we thought we'd try the experience at the Laurium Manor Inn.
The property is just beautiful - nicely restored, appropriately furnished, clean and made comfortable for its guests with little touches like 24 hour availability of coffee, tea, etc and homemade snickerdoodles to munch in front of the fireplace on a cold, rainy night. Our room on the 3rd floor - NOTE: no elevator - was warm, comfortable and cozy.
The only issue we had with this lovely place was a major disappointment in the included breakfast. From printed advertisements, we were led to believe that we would be served a very special gourmet-type breakfast. Instead it was a small buffet with mundane pancakes, boiled eggs and dry scones. No different - and much smaller - than what's offered at some of the cheaper chain hotels.
It didn't spoil our experience but was a jarring note in what we expected to be a very special experience.

Room Tip: Go to their website for a very good description of each room available along with price.

“This is a wonderful B&B.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

We stayed here one night and it is marvelous. We got there early so were able to see the other rooms. Plus all of the common rooms. Our room was huge with a balcony and quite quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best we have had. The staff was quite courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: We had room no. 1. It has the only (I think) outside balcony...huge). Also has a king bed and a qu...

“We really enjoyed our stay in the Keweenaw Peninsula .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

This part of the country is rich in copper mining history. The beaches and shores surrounding the peninsula are a rockhounds dream. We loved the back roads and scenic vistas of the area and will return one day.

When we do return will will stay at the Laurium Manor Inn. We found the staff to be most welcoming and upbeat. The room we had was clean, comfortable and air-conditioned. The breakfasts were fresh and tasty. The owner could not have been more informative and helpful.
One of the best things we enjoyed was dinner at the Miscowaubik Club. This was a club that the owners belong to and guests of the Inn can enjoy as well. Being from New York and enjoying all the great restaurants in Manhattan we found this to be a great choice for dinning. After dinner try the bowling alley or the billiard tables. I also loved the sign in the lobby of the Miscowaubik Club that said, "Well behaved children welcome. Misbehaving children will be given a double espresso and a new puppy and immediately sent home with their parents."
If you head up to this area and like minerals make sure you check out the new museum in Houghton which just opened.

“Beautiful, Comfortable, but no Air Conditioning!”

A beautiful B+B in a beautiful area - Calumet and Laurium and side-by-side towns that are very quaint and cute. Some of the rooms at the Manor have A.C. units, but most don't. We stayed in the Carriage House (room #20) and loved it - You get the entire two bedroom floor of the Carriage House for the same price as renting one of the rooms in the Manor or Victorian House!!!! We stayed for two days and loved breakfast each day. While they did provide several fans for us, we still needed the large one we had brought with us. Mind you, they had record high heat and humidity the days we were there - No one in the UP prepares for it to be a 104 heat index. If it had been averages temps I'm sure we would have been comfortable.

Also, we discovered when we got there that with 24 hours notice you could have an in-room massage! We didn't take advantage of that perk, but what a nice option!

If you like to get dirty and enjoy nature, check out the ATV Rental place in Calumet and spend a day out on the trails.

Room Tip: The Carriage House has a lot of space, it's own kitchen, and a lot of privacy for the same price...
