Two of my college friends and I recently took a week-long trip from Madison, WI through to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Autumn was at it's height and we had a great trip. Since none of us had ever stayed in a Victorian B&B, we thought we'd try the experience at the Laurium Manor Inn.
The property is just beautiful - nicely restored, appropriately furnished, clean and made comfortable for its guests with little touches like 24 hour availability of coffee, tea, etc and homemade snickerdoodles to munch in front of the fireplace on a cold, rainy night. Our room on the 3rd floor - NOTE: no elevator - was warm, comfortable and cozy.
The only issue we had with this lovely place was a major disappointment in the included breakfast. From printed advertisements, we were led to believe that we would be served a very special gourmet-type breakfast. Instead it was a small buffet with mundane pancakes, boiled eggs and dry scones. No different - and much smaller - than what's offered at some of the cheaper chain hotels.
It didn't spoil our experience but was a jarring note in what we expected to be a very special experience.
