A friend and I spent four days at this hotel. We were warmly greeted on arrival, checked in quickly, and given a "welcome package" with popcorn, candy and cookies in it -- a nice touch.
The hotel is located about eight miles to the west of central Lansing, about a 10 minute drive. A sushi bar is next door and a Bennigan's is within walking distance. There were at least six other restaurants within a half-mile and the Lansing Mall within a mile. The hotel's road intersects with the four-lane Saginaw Highway, and during rush hours it can be tricky to make a left turn out of Delta Commerce Drive and onto Saginaw as there's no traffic light.
Our room was fairly standard -- two beds, a small table with two chairs, a tube-style tv with an OK selection of channels. Personally I thought the pillows were a bit too soft, but that's personal taste. The wi-fi service was among the best I've encountered, working from almost any place in the room without interruption. The heating/air conditioning unit was unobtrusive and did its job well, though one has to manually switch from cooling to heating.
The included breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.,(an hour later on weekends) and we were able to sample it only once. There's a make-your-own waffle maker, juice, coffee, cereal, some fruit, danishes, etc., and some microwavable quiches and Jimmy Dean egg-and-sausage bowls that we did not sample. It would be nice if the breakfast could be offered until 10 a.m. to permit those who have to "sleep in" after a long drive to partake.
One time we arrived back at the hotel in late afternoon, and inquired of the front desk about obtaining some snacks to tide us over until dinner. To our pleasure, the clerk gave us two bags of cookies, along with some advice on local restaurants that proved spot-on.
Our only complaint with service came on our first night. At about 10 p.m., our toilet became stopped up, and I telephoned the front desk for assistance. The clerk asked me to report to the front desk where I was given a plumber's plunger, and told that after I cleared the blockage, I should leave the plunger inside the proffered plastic bag outside my door in the corridor -- not exactly sanitary! Nor do I feel it appropriate that a guest should be asked to perform this sort of service.
It may have been that the desk clerk was on alone at that hour, and couldn't leave the desk, but if so, the hotel probably should augment its night staff so that someone can cover the desk and lobby while another takes care of visitors' needs in the rooms.
With this sole exception, the staff was pleasant and professional and the stay a pleasant one.
