Upon arriving we were greeted kindly, quickly and courteously and were in our room in no time. As soon as we walked down the hall to the elevator we were somewhat disappointed. You could tell that the hotel was a bit dated by looking at the carpets, walls and elevator. The same was obvious as we entered the room. Everything could definitely use updating. Wear and tear is apparent merely upon glimpsing around.
We got a 2-bedroom suite with bathrooms attached to each room. This was a plus. The bedrooms were roomy enough and beds were comfortable. There was a tv in each bedroom and one in the living area. They were all old style tv's in good working order. There was a fireplace in the room which was nice, but also showed apparent signs of age. Part of the trim was missing-easy fix, why not do it?
We had a full kitched with a regular size refrigerator, small oven and dishwasher. There was a toaster and coffee maker of course. There were plenty of cupboard and drawer space with dishes, glasses, cups, plates, bowls, pans, silverware, etc...This was a plus.
The downfall besides the outdated, worn out look was the cleanliness. On top of the numerous bugs we killed, there were obvious stains on the wall where I would venture to guess bugs had been killed. Along the floor boards by the windows on each side of the fireplace...well honestly I only had the stomach to look on the right side...there was a bug graveyard that could very easily have been vacuumed by housekeeping. The suite could really have used a good overall cleaning other than a quick clean up sweep. The walls, cupboards, doors, etc just had signs of others having been there. There was a very obvious what appeared to be lipstick smear on the door of one of the bedrooms that I cleaned off. We also opened all of the windows for some fresh air as it was a nice day out and every single one of them had black grime in the sills with plenty of dead bugs. Yuck. Some of the dished needed re-washed. Yes cleanliness was the biggest downfall.
Plus sides: the pool and whirlpool were nice and towels were being brought in regularly. We saw people taking advantage of the basketball hoop just outside the pool room. There was free Wi-Fi which was great as were were able to use our laptop and the I-Pods. The breakfast was plentiful and tasted great. It was fairly quiet other than a few times when kids, as they will do, got a bit active--which is fine. There was a fitness room that appeared to have an adequate amount of equipment, but we never made it in there.
There were ideas on where we could obtain food and quite a few places very close by. Overall we enjoyed our visit, would have loved a cleaner place, but it was not obscenely dirty. I checked for bed bugs several times and saw no trace or obvious signs!!!! May recommend but hope that the place gets a good spring cleaning. I have heard that it is due to be updated.

Thank you for taking the time to review our facility. Reviews help us in many ways; without our guests' feedback we wouldn't be able to keep up on the wear and tear that we may not see on a daily basis. Is it possible for you to let me know which room you were in so we can take care of these issues immediately?
I'm glad to hear our staff met your expectations. However, I am sorry your stay wasn't more enjoyable! As you know, we are scheduled for renovations at the end of this year. Also, by June we will have 37" Flat screen televisions in each room! I hope you keep the Residence Inn Lansing West in mind for your future travel needs. We have a great staff and great product to offer. I apologize again for your ill experience. Thank you for choosing us!
