“Angela the manager is outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

I recently travelled through this area, driving my truck & 5th wheel for the first time, and required a place to spend one night. I wanted a large parking lot to make sure of the ease of my arrival & departure. I ended up calling the Fairfield Inn first, and found out it was not possible to drive completely around the building. I did not make a reservation at that time, but called the next door property Residence Inn, inquiring as to whether I might be able to use part of their parking lot if necessary. They are both Marriott properties and share driveways. I spoke with a very nice gentleman on the front desk, and then asked to speak with the manager, to confirm that he had said it would be fine. She said that it was certainly okay if I needed to use their parking lot (it is possible to drive completely around their building), and also stated she would love to have me stay with them, but since I had spoken to the Fairfield Inn first (even though no reservation was made), that I should spend the night at their sister property, which I did. She was very kind and went out of her way to assure me that it would be fine to park my rig there overnight.
I realize this review may not assist you with actual facts about this property, but I felt the outstanding customer service offered by Angela (Manager of Residence Inn, Lansing West) deserved a shout out! Thank you for making my first night on the road in my new rig so much smoother for me! You can rest assured that the next time I find myself in Lansing, Michigan I'll be staying at the Residence Inn.

“Fine place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

The hotel is showing its age and is worn a bit. However, they are great for a longer stay as the rooms have full kitchen. Larger than an average hotel room. They even have a grocery shopping service for you. The bed was okay and the bathroom was fairly clean. The free breakfast is fairly extensive with quite a few hot items. Had no problems.

“Not what I expected :(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

I stayed at the hotel for a local DI competition. The exterior of the hotel was great. Very clean and inviting. At check in my boyfriend and I were put off by the staff who did not act very professionally. The women were not very friendly. They did not put off a professional look either.

The hotel is definitely in need of a remodel (which I know is coming soon). We were on the 3rd floor. As soon as we got off of the elevator on the 3rd floor there was a HORRIBLE smell! This smell was very strong throughout the entire floor. We were in an end, low numbered room. The smell from the hallway was evident in our room as well, although not as strong. The cleanliness of the room was horrible! When we opened the windows to vent the room out the only clean part of the window sill were the finger prints from where others had opened it. There were dead bugs in the windows. When my boyfriend sat down on the chair in the living room we noticed a large area of white crusty mess on the arm. As if that wasn't gross enough, I looked up and the inside of the lamp shade on our desk was COVERED in stains, food and weird substances. We have a one year old so we spent the beginning of our trip cleaning up our room to accomodate him.

At night, the air conditioning unit in our room woke me up every time it turned on. It sounded like it was going to launch off into space. The flooring in the kitchen was loose. We had to kick the laminate pieces into place to avoid tripping our son.

When we requested help with the guest printer (wouldn't print an important document) the woman at the desk was very rude and said she didn't know anything about the computer and would not help us print the document at the front desk. Not what I expect from Marriott staff.

Breakfast was very tasty. I would suggest putting more time into planning how many people are in the hotel when it comes to breakfast, though. The person working the breakfast was very nice but obviously not prepared for the large crowd. They couldn't keep up with the food.

We had recommended the hotel to another team family. They had a number of the same complaints, which was embarrassing to us. Not what we expected at all! Definitely not what I would expect from a Residence Inn.

“Great Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2011

We stayed here twice in the last 3 months. The first time when our son moved to the Lansing area. We couldn't move him in the day we planned to so he and his girlfriend had to stay with us for the night. Our 2 bedroom suite was perfect. The sofabed was comfortable for our son. It would be nice if one of the bedrooms had 2 queen beds, but oh well!

We stayed again in March. This time our daughter and her friend traveled along with us; we didn't hesitate to make reservations here for this stay. Today I was looking for a suite for this weekend but am disappointed because there are none available.

I gave it low ratings on the service only because of the breakfast. The first time we went down and found it crowded and the lady in charge of the upkeep was wondering around complaining about various things. There was little selection because things needed to be kept up and the place was very untidy! The next time there wasn't enough food and it took a very long time to replenish. You'd think they would have a better idea of how many people to expect with the number of people in the hotel. The workers were working hard this time to replenish items as needed and there was no complaining. Regardless, it's a wonderful place to stay!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We at the Residence Inn are glad you make it a point to stay with us whenever you are in town! I am not sure if you've been back more recently, but we have added a nice addition to our breakfast staff. We hope she can meet your expectations as she has worked out very well so far. Thank you again for taking the time out of your busy day. It is nice to hear a few compliments on our property every now and then!

“Good and Not So Good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

Upon arriving we were greeted kindly, quickly and courteously and were in our room in no time. As soon as we walked down the hall to the elevator we were somewhat disappointed. You could tell that the hotel was a bit dated by looking at the carpets, walls and elevator. The same was obvious as we entered the room. Everything could definitely use updating. Wear and tear is apparent merely upon glimpsing around.

We got a 2-bedroom suite with bathrooms attached to each room. This was a plus. The bedrooms were roomy enough and beds were comfortable. There was a tv in each bedroom and one in the living area. They were all old style tv's in good working order. There was a fireplace in the room which was nice, but also showed apparent signs of age. Part of the trim was missing-easy fix, why not do it?

We had a full kitched with a regular size refrigerator, small oven and dishwasher. There was a toaster and coffee maker of course. There were plenty of cupboard and drawer space with dishes, glasses, cups, plates, bowls, pans, silverware, etc...This was a plus.

The downfall besides the outdated, worn out look was the cleanliness. On top of the numerous bugs we killed, there were obvious stains on the wall where I would venture to guess bugs had been killed. Along the floor boards by the windows on each side of the fireplace...well honestly I only had the stomach to look on the right side...there was a bug graveyard that could very easily have been vacuumed by housekeeping. The suite could really have used a good overall cleaning other than a quick clean up sweep. The walls, cupboards, doors, etc just had signs of others having been there. There was a very obvious what appeared to be lipstick smear on the door of one of the bedrooms that I cleaned off. We also opened all of the windows for some fresh air as it was a nice day out and every single one of them had black grime in the sills with plenty of dead bugs. Yuck. Some of the dished needed re-washed. Yes cleanliness was the biggest downfall.

Plus sides: the pool and whirlpool were nice and towels were being brought in regularly. We saw people taking advantage of the basketball hoop just outside the pool room. There was free Wi-Fi which was great as were were able to use our laptop and the I-Pods. The breakfast was plentiful and tasted great. It was fairly quiet other than a few times when kids, as they will do, got a bit active--which is fine. There was a fitness room that appeared to have an adequate amount of equipment, but we never made it in there.

There were ideas on where we could obtain food and quite a few places very close by. Overall we enjoyed our visit, would have loved a cleaner place, but it was not obscenely dirty. I checked for bed bugs several times and saw no trace or obvious signs!!!! May recommend but hope that the place gets a good spring cleaning. I have heard that it is due to be updated.

Thank you for taking the time to review our facility. Reviews help us in many ways; without our guests' feedback we wouldn't be able to keep up on the wear and tear that we may not see on a daily basis. Is it possible for you to let me know which room you were in so we can take care of these issues immediately?

I'm glad to hear our staff met your expectations. However, I am sorry your stay wasn't more enjoyable! As you know, we are scheduled for renovations at the end of this year. Also, by June we will have 37" Flat screen televisions in each room! I hope you keep the Residence Inn Lansing West in mind for your future travel needs. We have a great staff and great product to offer. I apologize again for your ill experience. Thank you for choosing us!
