My husband and I were travel from western Canada to Washington, DC and Williamsburg, VA, and decided to take the SS Badger across Lake Michigan. This hotel was on the way from the Ludington, MI, so we decided to make it our stop for the night.
Check in was quick and easy (although the clerk was a little abrupt), and there is a well-stocked "convenience store" next to the front desk. It had everything from hair gel and toothpaste to frozen foods and candy bars.
The corner suite we were given was massive, with a completely separate living room, and the suite was very, very clean. There were some drawbacks, however, and they were the ground-floor location and the "sketchiness" of the field outside our balcony doors. I felt a little apprehensive sleeping in this room, as it seemed someone could hop up onto the balcony and easily pry these open and gain access to our room. It left me sleeping with one eye open. In addition, the bathroom was very tiny, with very little room to maneuver in.
The breakfast was pretty great. We paid $4 each extra to have the deluxe breakfast. I'm not sure of the cook's name, but he was very lively, entertaining, and fun first thing in the morning, which helped start the day off on the right note.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, but if in the area again, I will ask for a room that is higher up while making the reservation--lesson learned.
