“We had a good time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We were in Iron Mountain for a stay and play vacation. This is the hotel associated with Timberstone Golf Course. It looks like a typical lodge from the outside, older but well maintained. The lobby with fireplace is nice. The elevator is teeny tiny, but it worked well. The hallways were strange, very reminiscent of my college dorm hallways. The room was a nice surprise after the halls. All of the furniture is brand new. The room is large enough with a nice desk area. The walls were all the old fashioned stucco on walls and ceiling. It was nicely painted, but I just don't care for stucco. The largest disappointment was the bathroom. It was so small they had put a stopper on the floor to prevent the door from opening the entire way. Without this stopper the door would slam into the toilet. Fortunately, the lavatory was outside the bathroom. The tub had been painted poorly sometime. The original gold color was showing through where the new finish was peeling off. They need to just break out the tub and reconfigure the space with a tiled shower. Everything was extremely clean and well maintained. We had dinner at the on site restaurant which was fine. The continental breakfast was the usual and served in the restuarant which was nice and roomy. Check in and out were easy. All of the staff we encountered were professional and friendly. Would we return? You betcha. I would have given 5 stars except for the tiny old bathroom and the dated stucco walls throughout the rooms and halls. If you are a golfer, don't miss a chance to play Timberstone. Wow!

Room Tip: Another time I would ask for a room on the first floor to avoid the small elevator.

“Excellent retreat for family gatherings...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Beautifully located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan- close to fishing, lakes and friendly family dining at quaint super clubs- like K&K Steakhouse nestled on the banks of the Menominee River that separates Wisconsin and Michigan. You can count on a cool breeze most evenings. Very relaxing spot. The condos are great for family gatherings and there's a first class golf course adjacent to the property.

Room Tip: Rustic design with all the basic essentials- request a condo

“We had an excellent stay, I hope we can go back soon!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Pine Mountain resort the night of July 18th. I was concerned prior to our stay because of several negative reviews regarding this facility. Thankfully we were quite pleased with our stay.

It's apparent from the outside that this is an older lodge. But the lobby looked recently remodeled and was very nice. Check in was smooth. We took the elevator to our room on the 3rd floor. The elevator is small, but worked fine. The doors to the rooms are a little small as well, with old fashioned key locks - this reminds you again that this is an older building. The room itself was very roomy and also appeared to have been recently updated. The bed was comfortable and the tiled bathroom was nice and large. The room was as clean as the best places I have stayed. A small office area to the side was welcome. We had dinner at Famers, the onsite restaurant. The food and service was very good. The waitress was friendly. We didn't use the pool. The TV was a little older but was fine. Wifi worked perfectly. The gap under the door is large and lets in quite a bit of light.

We slept very well and check out went very well. The staff was great the check in and check out people were professional and friendly. The lady at the restaurant that had the nasty job of cleaning the deep fryers was very helpful when I asked for a few buckets of ice for our cooler. The young man watering the plants in front of the building asked if I needed help loading our large cooler. I didn't need the help, but appreciated the offer.

The place is older and isn't perfect, but the overall experience was great!

PS - we golfed at Timberstone, what a fantastic golf course! The staff was excellent there as well.

“Nice staff but dated rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

We just returned from a 4 day, 3 night stay at Pine Mountain for our family reunion. Our grandparents were born and burried there, that's why we chose here. My grandfather helped design the ski slide which is a the top of the resort. The hotel part seemed nice, like any average hotel. We sayted in one of the condo's, Mountain Haus. If you have issues wih stairs or hills, I suggest NOT reserving a condo. You have to walk up a hill next to the ski lift to even get to the condo's. And once you are there, you will have to walk 1-2 flights of stairs if you don't have a ground room. The rooms were nice, but a tad dated. The cooling system is window a/c units. It was a hot weekend so it took awhile for the units to cool down the rooms. We slept 10 people (8 adults & 2 children). The kitchen was nice...complete with full size fridge, stove/oven, dishes, silverware, microwave and dishwasher. The couch also pulled out into a bed. There were two bathrooms and the showers were all right....the pressure was weird. The TV's were old school, and the decor is defineltely 'mountain loadge'. There was continental breakfast in the main lobby of the hotel...so you'd have to walk across the parking lot to get there. You could also take advantage of the pool, hot tub & suana. The "newer" condo's next door were nice for a single family, and you didn't have to trudge up a hill to get to them. The rooms were clean when we arrived by house keeping didn't come unless requested. And housekeeping was a girl sitting on the steps smoking a cigarette asking if you needed anything as you walked in. So....to me, this place has sentimental value, but I don't know if I would reurn otherwise.

“Great family ski resort - cold swimming pool & very hot hot tub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We stayed in a slope side condo. These condos are very nice. Bed & pillows were very comfy. It was nice to walk out of the room and ski over to a chairlift. This is a really nice ski resort to bring the family to. Nice slopes for every skill level. Friendly staff from the guy helping you on a chair lift, to the rental area, the restaurants, to the ski shop.

Just one disappointment. Just like the last time we were there. The pool was way too cold. The hot tub, was way too hot. When I alerted the front desk staff, I could tell they got numerous complaints on this one. I stay at a lot of hotels and am tolerant of a pool or hot tub not having perfect temperatures. This was a bit ridiculous. If I would have known this ahead of time I would of got a room somewhere else in Iron Mountain.

If only they could finally get the temperatures of the pool & hot tub into a reasonable range, this will become a really great place to stay.

If you want a good place to ski and are not concerned about swimming, this is a great place to stay. If you want to swim & relax in a hot tub after skiing, you may want to look up a different hotel in Iron Mountain. This is the 2nd time I was there where the pool was very cold and the hot tub way too hot.
