“Awesome Location”

My husband and I stayed for a 3 day get away. The location is amazing. We parked the car and walked everywhere. Downtown Holland has great shopping and several cool restaurants that we enjoyed (microbrewed beer - awesome). We stayed in room #1 which has a jacuzzi tub and a very comfortable king-sized bed. I felt very glamorous. I read another review and was quite surprised . I'm glad I didn't read it before we went. We found the hosts to be attentive and interesting but NOT intrusive. Yes, the TV was small, but we never watched it - we stayed there for the awesome location. The landscaping is lovely. I loved sitting on the front porch after a day in town (even with coats on) and looking over the lawn and the park across the way. This is not the place to go to if you're looking to be entertained by the hosts - it is the perfect location if you're looking for information about places to visit, a great location, and the price was definitely right. Since we don't like getting up for breakfast, we asked for and received a discount on the room. This was awesome!! We strolled into town and had brunch - plus the hosts let us put our leftovers in the fridge (and we cooled down a nice bottle of champagne)

Room Tip: Ask if you can get a better rate without breakfast

“Stay away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2006

The Centennial Inn B&B is a large, grand old house right in the middle of Holland, MI. It is across the street from Centennial Park and within walking distance of the downtown restaurants and shopping, which is the primary reason we stayed there.

The owners and innkeepers, Kay and Rein, bought the house in 1995 and completely refinished it. They did an excellent job. However, the inn is currently for sale, and it was obvious to us that their hearts are not into being hosts any more. (We were the only guests there on a weekend during peak season, and when we checked in, Kay told us, "When people call, I tell them we're full." She also told us they were "done" with running a B&B.)

We felt like we were being a burden or an annoyance just by being there.

We stayed in Room #4, which was cheaply furnished and was arranged in a way so as not to be convenient. The tiny TV was on a stand beside the head of the bed (no way to lie in bed and watch it) and there was only one light in the room (no way to lie in bed and read, either). There was a long list of "house rules" taped to the wall in the room (no food in the rooms, no massage lotions or oils, etc.).

Breakfast was the worst. The first morning we were served tea and juice and a fresh fruit cup (which was good). Then we were served an undercooked, greasy sausage patty and hash brown patty (the kind you'd find in the freezer section of a grocery store). A short time later, Kay returned with a danish, also the freezer kind. We stayed there four nights, and each morning we got the sausage and hash brown patties. The "main course" varied from the danish, to coffee cake to pancakes (our last morning). Nothing tasted homemade or fresh.

After our first night, we wanted to leave.... We wouldn't recommend staying at this inn until it is under new ownership.
