“Breakfast too late for early flights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We stayed here a few times before early flights. Rooms were larger which was nice so you didn't hear the hallway noise when going to bed early. Bad part breakfast starts too late for the early flights. Have stayed other times and breakfast was very good.
Clean room. Is getting older - ceiling tiles crusty in areas, bathroom sink leaked all over floor, air / heat difficult to use.
On more than one occasion front desk staff has been not so friendly. We stay in hotels 100 plus nights a year and some of these employees just seem like they would rather be elsewhere. Or was it because we used our points (loyal HI customers) we get treated badly and seem to get the "bad" room? Also - what happened to the water we'd get at check in for being platinum members?
Glad to see the note on the new lamps too as my husband has a breathing machine and it's difficult to plug in. You either end up with no clock or no light. 1 visit the front desk did find us a cord to borrow.
Honestly not sure if we are going back again or not.

“Goodle Value for the MOney - pool good for older kids”

WEll kept - suite style is nice for families. Breakfast was great! Our kids are 2 and 3 and loved the pool, but we had to be with them every second because its a traditional pool they could easily fall off into (I'm into the newer hotels that have pools that cater to little ones a little more). Luckily we had some extra relatives so we could share the responsibility with them. Short drive to down town and mall - Huge Meijer across the street for anything you forgot. I enjoyed it and they were very nice.

“It's like living in one of their happy commercials!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011 via mobile

It's rare when you see an ad for something and the product or service lives up to it.

Holiday Inn Express is one of those rare gems!

Everyone was absolutely prompt and polite and really happy to help me! Check in was FAST!

Got to the room - super clean - comfortable bed - lots of pillows - television was sizable and nice.

The shower was powerful (I hate a soft unpowerful shower!!!). There were plenty of little amenities... Right down to nice notepads and pens that really write (unlike the crappy ones you get in other hotels).

Breakfast was huge! They talk about the cinnamon rolls... But there were rolls, biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, muffins, pancakes, and cereal, and different juices coffee and milk. Wow! I'm probably leaving out some stuff!

USA today was complementary.

I slept well... Having a great day today... If you asked me why... I'd say - I stayed at holiday inn express last night! (Ok, it's cheesy but true!)

Oh... One thing they need to improve on is the tv signal... Totally watchable but grainy! We live in a high definition world... Seems like these are standard def - and on HDTV standard def does not look great.

“Great Stay...would stay there again the next time I am in the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We were in town for a family party and had scheduled our stay for one night before moving onto another hotel in Lansing, Michigan. We were enjoying our stay when it was time to check out and asked ourselves did we want to go the other hotel we had booked. The answer was no. We went to the front desk and cancelled the other reservation and stayed 3 more days at this hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is great if you are looking for local restaurants or want a nearby grocery store to stock up your refrigerator with drinks, etc. The hotel was everything that we were looking for in our place to stay and relax. The next time we are in the area we will be staying at the hotel again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 235 which was away from the elevator and stairways.. The room was on the back sid...

“Somewhat of a disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

After reading so many good reviews of this property, we were a bit disappointed with our experience. On the positive side, we did find the rooms to be very clean, and the rooms were plenty large for our purposes. The breakfast was also good, with quite a few food and beverage options. The pool was fine-- the water was a nice temperature, but the room containing the pool was very chilly which made getting out of the pool unpleasant.

We had some minor issues during out stay, such as finding that our room key cards had been accidentally deactivated when we tried to get into our room the second day (to their credit, the front desk quickly rectified the situation). Also, the thermostat was difficult to read, which made it hard to find a comfortable temperature for the room. There was an extremely long line for breakfast (and no available tables), so the 2nd morning of our stay, we had to skip breakfast because we did not have time to wait in line.

The major issues were the overly firm beds (with no mattress pads, just paper-thin mattress guards). If you don't mind firm beds this will not be a problem, but I did not sleep at all the first night as a result of the bed. Again, to their credit, the staff provided us with extra blankets to help alleviate the problem the second night, and it did help-- but the mattress was still not ideal. Unlike most of the other reviewers, we experienced a great deal of noise during our stay-- lots of kids yelling, running through the hallways, and slamming doors throughout the night. It did quiet down somewhat after 11:00pm, so we did not mention it to the front desk, but it was still louder than most hotels in which we've stayed, and we could hear conversations and TVs in adjacent rooms. Also, the drapes in our room were partially broken, so the drapes did little to block out the bright lights streaming into our room all night from the front of the hotel.

For all of the aforementioned reasons, I regret to say that we would not stay here again.
