“duct tape holding toliet seat together”

I reserved for 2 nights but only stayed one. I should have just left after i walked in the lobby. there were strange men walking around in the lobby. the smell was awful. there were no ice machines. there was mold on cieling. I was afriad to touch anything there. In the bathroom the toielt seat had duct tape holding it together. The sheets kept falling off the bed. I pulled the top blankets off because i was afraid to use them. my husband used his own shirt for a pillow case be3cause he didn't want to touch anything. I paid 47.99 a night. I would say its not even worth 10.00 a night. The pool area had many dangerouse and dirty things. the chairs had gum on the seat. there was a cone covering a open pipe. i could go on and on about this place but dont have time. I would not stay here ever again or would not wish my worse enemy to. stay away!

“Could have been much better, but could have been worse”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2009

This place has a lot of potential, but its owners have let it deteriorate.

To start off, the hallways are somewhat creepy. They are dimly lit, musty corridors separated by metal doors at the stairways.

The room was a nice size (I think it might have been a deluxe room as the others were smaller), and the cleanliness was acceptable. However, there were several issues:
-The beds were uncomfortable
-The heater/air conditioner did not function properly and it ended up being quite hot in the room most of the time.
-The TV remote control was broken
-The toilet flush handle broke early in our stay. Housekeeping noticed this and fixed it.
-The tub drained slowly
-The desk chair was missing a wheel. We found this out when someone sat down and it almost tipped over
-The room did not have an ironing board or hair dryer. These had to be obtained from the front desk.
-The hotel does have a mold problem throughout. We noticed a little bit on our shower curtain. At the end of our two night stay, two of us had developed sore throats that went away after soon after we left.

The free breakfast was average. They did have waffle makers, which was a plus.

The conference center was adequate but in poor repair. The ballroom (Stars Room) felt more like an old church basement, and had dated wall paneling and water stains on the ceiling tiles. The medium-sized meeting room (Stripes Room) was newer.

I would avoid this hotel. If you have to stay here and you're willing to put up with the minor problems, it is adequate for a night or two.

“Stuck here :(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2008

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a couple days over my exam week because my family has the flu and I was trying to avoid getting it and to have somewhere quiet to study.
We tried a few hotels downtown to be close to my school, but they were all booked due to a big convention, and Grand Inn was the only close place that was available.
We got to our room, and the lights wouldn't turn on. We figured out you had to fiddle with the switch to make them turn on and stop flashing. Then we looked near the bed and saw that the lamp on the table was broken, and the shade was off. After looking online for other hotels, we finally decided to call the front desk to see if we could have a refund. When we got to the desk, the lady had gone and checked out our room and realized that there was a note on her desk saying not to book that room and felt really bad. We told her we didn't want to see any other rooms but she offered to upgrade us to a king room for no extra charge, and told us to go look at the rooms and pick the one we wanted. The room wasn't good by any means, but much better than the first, and since it was late we decided to stay.
The rooms and hallways are very dark and dingy. It's scary because I see cars parked outside but haven't really seen any guests. The furniture and walls are scratched up and the carpet has quite a few stains. As of right now, there is something hanging from the ceiling, and I'm to scared to go look if its a spider or what! The bathroom is very small. The breakfast consists of warm orange juice and stale bagels. Also, it is very dry in the room, and the heater smelled funny when we turned it on. It has been making my throat hurt and my boyfriend got a bloody nose.
I definitely will not stay here again. This hotel is worse than motel 6 (which says a lot because I've had a bad experience there), and it cost $15 more!
This hotel could be really nice with a lot of fixing up, it looks nice from outside and the entrance and breakfast rooms are nice. Also, the staff (including the lady who checked us in) are very friendly. Every time I walk by they greet me.
Overall, this hotel has a lot of potential, but it seems that nobody is taking the time to fix it up.

“Grand Inn.....HELL YEAH!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2008

The Grand Inn over in Michigan was one of the most laid back friendly hotels i've been in since i started working in a career that has me traveling the Nation. Trust me i've stayed in the best of the best and the worst of the worst. But this was the first time i actually stayed in a place where it felt really comfortable. I must add that the hotel staff was phenomenal in every aspect some real down to earth folks. I chatted with the guy at the front desk for about 2 hours. I do believe his name was Greg and he was the epitimee of cool! I had frequented this establishment before in the past but now it's under new ownership and they've really turned the place around. I'm talking new furnishings new ammenities and just an all around new feel to the place. Hats off to the Grand Inn in Mich......Grady G.
