My wife and I decided to do a local get-away and found a reasonably priced hotel close to home on Hotwire. The front desk staff was pleasant but our first room had a broken toilet seat. We went down to inform the front desk and she gave us another room down the hall. The basics are fine with the room, just don’t expect much more. The room was rather small. It still had an old CRT TV (not a flat screen). The room heater ran constantly and was quite noisy (even on low heat). The only other option was to shut it off, which it currently is. The king bed was quite hard and I woke up somewhat achy. Aside from the desk, there wasn’t anywhere where two people could sit. My wife and I came for a writing vacation, so we both had to crowd around the desk to collaborate. There was a mini fridge and microwave in the room.
The free breakfast was good with fresh fruit being the only noticeable omission. There were bagels, toast, waffles, eggs, biscuits & gravy, cold and hot cereal, milk, juice and two types of yogurt.
The indoor pool / hot tub area looked nice but we never made it down there during our one night stay.
There was a TV (flat screen!) in the breakfast area and one in the lobby. The fireplace in the lobby was a fake electric one. The front desk said that the hotel was built in 2000 and updated in 2008.
Hotwire rated this hotel a 3 star, I would put it closer to a 2-2 ½ star. It had the basics covered but I would have expected more for a 3 star hotel. I think there are better values out there.
