We went to Peaches at 4:30 in the afternoon to check in, as I had been previously advised that we couldn't check in until after 4. We rang the doorbell which caused their two dogs to bark loudly. When no one answered the door, we knocked several times, then opened the door and shouted "Hello" repeatedly. After several minutes, the woman who owns the B&B finally appeared. She stated that "the doorbell must not work", and went outside to test it. It worked fine (and even if it didn't, the knocking, dogs barking, and repeated hellos should have gotten her attention). She never introduced herself, or offered to show us the common areas of the house supposedly available for our use. Instead, she took us straight to our room. The room appeared fine at first glance, then she showed us the bathroom. She said the tile had recently been replaced, and we needed to keep the shower curtain closed tightly because the grout had yet to be sealed. In addition, she stated that the floor of the tub would feel gritty, but that is just from the work recently completed. As we left the bathroom, we noticed some white dusty footprints on the wood floor of our room. The owner never offered to clean the footprints and never apologized (this would become a trend), and simply stated that "I thought my husband had cleaned that up". I asked about breakfast the next morning, and she said it would be at 9:30, and reminded us that checkout was at 10 a.m. She stated that she did not know what we'd have for breakfast, as she "couldn't use the oven in this heat". We asked about getting a cab to go to dinner at 7:30, and she stated she would call for one to arrive at 7:15 to 7:30, as the restaurant was only about 5-10 minutes away. We settled into our room, and my wife wanted some ice water. I went downstairs to find the owner, who said the ice maker was broken. Next, it occured to me that we had no key to either our room or the house itself. I went to ask the owner, who had no keys for us; she simply said that she would not lock the main door to the place until all the guests arrived back for the night. I decided to take a shower and get ready to go to dinner. I looked around for a towel, and there were none in the room. Again, I went downstairs to find the owner. I told her my problem, and she said something like "I guess that room wasn't really ready for guests". I followed her to the laundry area where she gave me some towels - again with no real apology for the problem. I took off my clothes, walked across the dirty bathroom floor, and stepped into the shower (yes, it was gritty as she indicated). I tried to turn on the water, but with no success. I put my clothes back on, and once more went to find the owner. I told her there was no water in the shower, and she led me back upstairs. She found the cut-offs and turned the water on to the shower, but again did not apologize, let alone offer to do something to make up for all our problems. As we were getting ready for dinner, we got a call at 6:50 that our cab had arrived (30 minutes early). The next morning, at breakfast, we had peaches in a little cereal cup. OK so far. Then, the entree for our "gourmet" breakfast arrived. It was scrambled eggs wrapped in a flour tortilla, and covered with a little gravy that included some pieces of hot sausage. Three of the guests, including my wife, ate only a couple of bites. When we checked out, I expected an offer to adjust the bill due to all the problems, or at least a sincere apology. There was nothing. Obviously, we will not be going back.
