“Great customer service and a great price for the night”

Shaun ( the owner) at the front desk was extremely helpful during our stay. The whole first floor was under renovation and we can't wait to see the improvements to the rooms when they are done. It looked like all of the bathrooms were getting new tile. The rooms themselves were recieveing a fresh coat of paint. The pool had a new liner and was nice and warm with fresh water. The spa was under repair so we couldn't enjoy it this trip but look forward to it next time. The rooms were clean, comfortable and very affordable.

“FIlthy hotel avoid this place”

THis hotel has a bad smell to it. the carpets are filthy and the linen didn't look that fresh either. The free breakfast in the morning is not even worth it. They have a big container of butter and cream cheese and bags of bagels . I had a cup of coffee and it was nasty.. it made me gag.
THe baymont the next exit north is better .

“We made it work for the night, but would never stay there again.”

This motel is severely understaffed and poorly maintained. My husband and I decided on a last minute trip to Northern Michigan to do a color tour because of the beautiful weather. My experiences with America's Best Value motels has been largely positive and I knew I could get a good deal with my Value Club membership so unfortunately, did not check this site for reviews before making my reservation.
A member of the housekeeping staff was checking people in because they had an employee quit, there was only one desk clerk, who had been working 16 hours a day and the manager was on a three week vacation. She did the best she could but had some difficulty. We were able to get the room we reserved but others did not. We reserved a jacuzzi room. When we arrived, about 3pm, they were still cleaning the room. We noticed the access panel was off the side of the jacuzzi and needed to be glued back on and we requested that a fridge for the room, then went out to enjoy the day. When we finally returned, about 9pm that evening, we noticed lots more. The panel had not been put back on the jacuzzi and a microwave instead of a fridge had been brought in and placed on the floor, and plugged into the wall.
We were tired so got ice to keep our water cold, used the jacuzzi anyway and then pulled back the covers to go to bed. (we had pulled back the covers on one side when we first checked in, but not examined the bed thouroghly) There was crusty brown stuff on one of the pillow cases and the sheets were covered with someone elses hair. We pulled off the pillowcase and the pillow was covered with yellow stains. The blanket was also stained.
I went down to the lobby, where the exhausted desk clerk was talking to an unfortunate man who had made reservations for two nights online and found they had no record of it and the only places with vacancies were south in Saginaw or north over the bridge. When I explained the situation, the clerk apologized and gave me replacement sheets and pillowcases. However he said they did not wash the pillows because they couldn't be washed and had no others. The sheets were wrinkled and in a pile but clean. When I got back to the room, I found he had given us the wrong sized bottom sheet. My husband went down to see the clerk and they had no more King size sheets so he gave us two double sheets. We read the care instructions on the pillow and they are machine washable.
As we moved around the room that night, we realized it was surface cleaned-(toilet, tub and sink cleaned) but otherwise very dirty. Walls were dirty and scratched and dented ,even the light switch panels were dirty. The molding was missing over the a/c. The fan in the bathroom was filthy. Some of the towels were stained and there was hair on them and on the styrofoam water cups. The only toiletries were three small hand soaps, no complimentary shampoo, conditioner etc. The carpet had burn marks in it as did the side of the tub although this was a nonsmoking room.
We were so uncomfortable with the lack of cleanliness in the room that we skipped the complimentary breakfast. There is internet access but it is unsecured. The general poor maintenance and lack of cleanliness we put down to understaffing and lack of concern or interest in the motel by the absent manager. The staff they had was doing the best they could with limited time and resources but was not sufficient to maintain or even clean the property. The staff was friendly and polite and as helpful as they could be but we would never stay there again and will certainly check all reviews and never assume an America's Best is clean and well maintained again.
At the back of the building by the rear door is another smaller structure that appears to be a smaller motel building converted into long term housing. It is in horrible disrepair and an eyesore. We would recommend that no one stay at this location unless they have a high tolerance for dirt and poor maintenance and don;t mind sleeping on bedding someone else has used.

“Everything was OK”

It wasn't the cleanest place on earth but the price was right and the room itself was a lot cleaner than the common areas.

“OK but overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

Extremely friendly staff, clean, but in need of a few better repairs (new linoleum peeling up, hot tub not working, pool area quite dirty, battery missing from smoke detector in room), very skimpy breakfast. I'd stay again for $49 - $59 but the $79 AAA rate was way too high for this place and they can only get away with it because of location and other motels being full. Try the Downtowner just up the road a bit first.
