We stayed for two days while visiting my daughter in Allendale. We chose the Gerber Guest House because it was reasonable (rooms $75-$85), and the web site was very enticing. Upon arrival we were concerned becaused Jan met us and really seemed disinterested, and really didn't give us a tour of the house and where to park, and where to get breakfast. We felt unwelcome. But if you give the Gerber a chance it really is a great place. The owners if you make an attempt to talk to them, are very friendly. There was a farmers market on the weekends where you can get some great things. The breakfast was different than traditional sit down B&Bs. It was serve yourself, and there was plenty of things to choose from, cereal, oatmeal, tea or coffee, juices, bottled water, english muffins, etc. I kind of like the idea of self serve as sometimes it is hard to meet at a prescribed time. The main thing the B&B has going for it is the beautiful rooms and astounding back yard with gardens and a lighted fountatin. We stayed in room 5, where for $85 you get a room that is huge, with a lovely four poster bed. What a value. Also the bathroom is in the room, which is not always the case in some B&Bs. All in all, this place is a good value, and is a good alternative to the high priced B&Bs in the Muskegon and Grand Rapids area. And Fremont is such a cute and quaint town!
