“Going down the tubes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2010

This is the 5th time I have stayed at this hotel. Each time it seems they put me a room worse than the previous. This latest room smells like dirty feet. There is no screen on the window so I can't air the room out. Of course I did not realize this until I had set up my stuff in the room. I went down to inform the front desk person and she offered me a can of air freshener. Gee thanks. To top it off the tub had hair on it. I have stayed here before because of the price but it has gotten to the point where the price does not justify the deteriorating condition of this hotel. It is worth it to spend $40 more and stay at a nicer place.

“Great value, great stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2010

The hotel was very nice for the price and the room was very clean. The only problem was that someone had put soap in the hot tub and turning on the jets caused the suds to almost go over the edge. The front-desk worker had warned us about it, though, and was very nice about it. The sauna was very nice and the breakfast was good. It was also in an easily accessible area, right next to the fair grounds and near shopping.

“Very inexpensive!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2009

Our trip lasted one more day than we expected, so we were looking for an inexpensive hotel in the Escanaba area, which is what we found.

The woman at the front desk gave us a $49 rate! She was wonderful! She gave us directions to restaurants and a list of things to do in this little town.

The room itself was kind of small. It didn’t have much to offer, although it was VERY clean, there just wasn’t much space. The majority of the people staying at this hotel were construction workers who probably don’t need much room to move around, but for us it was difficult finding room to put our bags.

The bathroom was quite spacious, and was very clean. They did have very nice towels, and the bedding was very fresh.

They also have a large hot tub and sauna in the back of the hotel. It was very private and had windows all around facing the woods.

I was very impressed by their customer service; everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome

It is a very quiet, friendly, and clean hotel.

“Just about perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

My wife and I stayed at the Econo Lodge in Escanaba as part of a recent fall color-watching trip to the U.P. We selected the Econo Lodge as it appeared to be the lowest-priced chain motel in the area. Every aspect of our stay was outstanding. The room was very clean, comfortable, and cozy. The front desk staff were friendly and prompt. Even though it was a weekend night and the motel parking lot appeared approximately half full, it was very quiet. The bed--usually for me the greatest need for improvement in motels I've stayed in--was one of the most comfortable I've ever had. The free continental breakfast was delicious and filling!

Areas of improvement are few and relatively minor; the main one was that the area for the continental breakfast was somewhat cramped, though as a whole the motel seemed to make very efficient use of space.

They had a palque at the desk indicating they were a "Motel of the Year" finalist in the Econo Lodge chain; it was very easy to see why they were. We'll be back again the next time we're in the area, and they come highly recommended to anyone looking for an inexpensive yet clean and comfortable room.

“Very Good Value, Well Managed Facility.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2008

The Econo Lodge in Escanaba is a clean, good-value motel located directly on US2 immediately South of the U.P. State Fairgrounds. The hotel was fairly clean, at least as clean as one would expect for a Econo Lodge. The staff were very courteous, and the breakfast was as advertised, well-stocked supply of various breakfast foods and a small eating room. The morning breakfast lady (Saturday) was friendly and kept the area tidy.
The only negative is the highway noise from US 2, but mostly all the motels are on the highway in Escanaba and I don't think there's a way to get away from the traffic noise.

  • Liked — Good Value and a nice breakfast was included with room charge.
  • Disliked — Noise from traffic on US 2.
