“Great Location, great room, but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

The service was excellent and the room was quite comfortable. I just felt it was not worth the price. Everything extra is free at most places now, but not here. We stayed at probably the most expensive place in East Lansing, but they still did not have free extras. I brought my computer, thinking I'd get online. That'll cost you $14 a day. I thought there would be a nice small continental breakfast. That'll cost you $25 for the package deal just for breakfast. I parked the car in the lot. That'll cost you $7 per day. I thought I'd go online in the business room. That'll cost you $5 for 10 minutes. The other places I have stayed all have those extras for free, but not here. They just keep wanting more and more money from you.
The workers at the front desk were very nice. The cleaners were extremely nice. We called down for an extra blanket and they came in less than a minute-impressive. The bed was very relaxing and lots of pillows. It is a very nice hotel- I just wish they quit nickel and diming me.

“Great location - Older Hotel- thin walls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

First, let me start by saying that there are not that many "nice" hotels in the East Lansing area. The East Lansing Marriott is one of the nicer hotels. This hotel is within walking distance to both the basketball and football stadiums at MSU. This hotel is also a quick walk to the various watering holes and eating establishments that make East Lansing a great college town. I suspect that this hotel sees its fair amount of intoxicated guests, returning to the hotel to relive their college days (ok more than suspect since I have stayed here on other occassions and I too was one of those guests). As a result, the hotel is already old. However, I believe the occupants are very rough on it. My room looked like any standard US marriott room, flat screen tv, bed with fluffy feather pillows, decent shower, modern sink, yet I had to worry about the strange stains I saw on the bedroom carpet and carpet in generally. The walls at this hotel are extremely thin. Around 2am, I was woken up by guests who had clearly returned from the bar and were extremely loud. The elevators at this hotel are slow. The hot water did not stay hot during my shower- going from hot to warm. There is parking underneath the hotel - free for guests- but I am not sure how it works if you have more than one car. I visited the hotel restaurant/bar around 10pm. The bartender was missing for quite some time and the service was slow. This hotel can be quite expensive- especially on football saturdays- it is important to note that you are not paying for a 5 star hotel, but a hotel that is in a great location.

“Nice Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2010

I normally stay at Hilton properties through work, so when my family told me we were staying at the Marriott for a football game I had little expectations. I have to admit that I was wrong.

The staff was amazing... Totally, I was very impressed. They even came to the airport to pick me up, and I have no status with Marriott!

The room was clean and modern and the nice thing was it was quiet during a football party weekend!!

Overall I would reccomend this hotel!

“Don't pay cash”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

My family and I were in East Lansing for a wedding. The location of this hotel is the only good point about it. I'm not sure if all hotels these days penalize people who pay cash, but it was a good thing that I had the extra $100 that they made me pay for "incidentals" up front . I budgeted for everything for the week-end and this put me in a position to hold back on other things. I had to put my credit card on the room to reserve it, so it wasn't like they didn't have that information if something would have actually happened. The lobby of the hotel was mediocre at best and one of the elevators didn't work properly. I just was not impressed at all and make sure you have your credit card!

“Convenient location, somewhat older but comfortable hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

I stayed a couple of nights and had a good trip. There were lots of restaurants, pubs, stores, etc. easily walkable. Michigan State University is right there as well. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant but the business lunch they served was reasonably good - hot comfort food.

I found the room and bed comfortable. I didn't go for the $12.95 Internet access - instead I walked a block to the Cosi restaurant or the Barnes & Noble for free wireless. The bathroom wasn't as clean as it could have been. The hand towel rack was mounted right in front of the sink at waist level - first time I've seen that at a hotel. Makes it a little tricky to lean other to brush your teeth or wash up. Also it had that trendy new hotel thing where bath towels aren't on a rack - instead they're rolled up and stuffed into a cubby under the sink countertop. No problem until you read the signs that to save water you should hang your towel up instead of leaving on the floor - exactly how do we do that with no bath towel rack?

The TV was an older model and the channel selection was limited. I used the fitness room which had good equipment including free weights and cardio machines. There was a flat screen TV there and some of the machines had individual screens - unfortunately some of them didn't work (just static).

They allowed me to leave a little late because I had a noon meeting, so don't be afraid to ask for exceptions to the checkout time.
