I've been a guest here several times for business. I return for several reasons: location near Michigan State University, location near shops and restaurants, convenient underground parking, and quality of accomodations. This last time, customer service (from the front desk to the restaurant), was particularly noteworthy. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I stayed three nights and it felt like home after the first night. By the way, I called 24-hours ahead of my arrival to confirm the availability of the hotel shuttle. Because my flight into Lansing was going to arrive after the hotel shuttle stopped service for the night, the front desk arranged for a free cab ride from the airport. That's just another example of great customer service at this property. If busness brings me back next year, I'll again happily be a guest at the East Lansing Marriott at University Place! I spent a week at this hotel with a large group for a conference. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the concierge named Kia who was friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and updated. The first morning of the conference the hotel had water bottles filled and ready for us to take as we left. The next morning, it was raining and the desk workers were offering umbrellas as we departed. I have never had such wonderful service in a hotel. I even left some clothing in a drawer and when I called to ask about it, I was told it would mailed to me at no expense. The staff at this hotel goes above and beyond if I am in East Lansing again this would be my hotel of choice.

The Marriott in East Lansing is a quality set up. My check in took all of 30 friendly seconds. The room was fantastic and large. the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was spacious, impeccably clean and modern.

I used room service for breakfast, which was ok (they stuffed up the price on the docket, but this was correct before I had checked out). The fitness centre downstairs is one of the best I've come across on my many travels.

But what took the cake was when I went to check out and asked them to call a taxi for me to go to the airport.
"no problem, sir" they said,"we'll pay that for you"
!!!!
I'm sorry?

Yep. As their shuttle driver wasn't around they paid my taxi. Unbelievable and it certainly encouraged me towards becoming a Marriott convert. Full marks for service!

The service was excellent and the room was quite comfortable. I just felt it was not worth the price. Everything extra is free at most places now, but not here. We stayed at probably the most expensive place in East Lansing, but they still did not have free extras. I brought my computer, thinking I'd get online. That'll cost you $14 a day. I thought there would be a nice small continental breakfast. That'll cost you $25 for the package deal just for breakfast. I parked the car in the lot. That'll cost you $7 per day. I thought I'd go online in the business room. That'll cost you $5 for 10 minutes. The other places I have stayed all have those extras for free, but not here. They just keep wanting more and more money from you.
The workers at the front desk were very nice. The cleaners were extremely nice. We called down for an extra blanket and they came in less than a minute-impressive. The bed was very relaxing and lots of pillows. It is a very nice hotel- I just wish they quit nickel and diming me.
