“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Dundee with a group of friends in October and had an excellent nights stay at this hotel.
On arrival the staff were very friendly, the blonde girl on reception was very helpful, and advised us on good nightclubs to go in Dundee, which proved great advice!
The location was fantastic, right in the heart of the city centre and a 5 minutes walk from the bus station. I would recommend the City Harbour Chinese buffet across the road from the hotel, it was fantastic!
The room was very clean and well decorated. We stayed in a 4 persons room which we initially thought would make it cramped, but it was no at all.
The night we stayed we had some trouble with other people staying in the hotel. We phoned reception and within a minute the night manager had resolved the situation. This therefore made us feel really safe staying in the hotel. Due to the trouble we had, the hotel let us check out later than 11am free of charge.

Overall this hotel provided the perfects night stay, great location, helpful staff and just a great overall experience, thank you!

“Front Desk and Management needs Hospitality 101 stay at the Country Inn Suites Instead”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stay at the Country Inn Suites Across the street instead of dealing with poor management.

We stayed here recently with our kids. The property is clean. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The water park is great. The problem with this hotel isn't the pool or the food or service or lifeguards.

The problem with this place is simple and effective Hotel and Tourism management. We understand the location of this place isn't in the tropics but it is located near the MECCA of outdoor sporting goods Cabelas.

It appears that Holiday Inn has misinterpreted how they train their staff. Maybe they should look more closely at the front of the house at the Dundee Holiday Inn Express.

Not impressed with any of the front desk or top management from this hotel. A simple mistake could have been fixed with a huge apology of "I'm sorry".

But Holiday Inn Express, Dundee must prohibit its staff from saying these two words. And now i'm sorry I will not be recommend this place for any of my friends in the area.

Stay at the Country Inn Suites instead.

The water park is great for 10 and under I agree.

Manager needs to take Hospitality 101 and possibly a remedial class prior to taking 101.

Room Tip: Do not stay in Room 151 a fan is connected to the stairwell. Apparently no one has ever complained...

“Great night away with 3 kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

My bride and I had a little post Christmas cash and I had a Cabella's gift card, so we decided to take our 3 kids (ages 6, 4, and nearly 2) on an overnight trip as a little getaway before the 6 year old was back to school. We booked a suite with a king bed and a bunk bed (separated by a half wall) and had the little guy in a pack and play. The room had a mini fridge and microwave, and was clean and nice. We've been blessed to have stayed at a lot of different properties in our 11 years of marriage. I contemplated 5 stars because we had so much fun and it met all our expectations, but gave it 4 stars overall because it's not the Four Seasons, it's a Holiday Inn with a waterpark attached. Great for our family fun, but don't expect your bed to be turned down for you. By booking online utilizing the waterpark webpage (Splash Universe), our room included waterpark passes for the day we checked in starting at 12 noon, and the following day (really nice value when you consider that would have cost us $240 for two days of passes and we paid around $250 for the package). We arrived around 1PM (hotel check-in time is 4PM), but our room was ready which was a nice bonus to get our stuff moved in and dropped off.

The waterpark was very clean and nice. It was perfect for the ages of our kids. I read an earlier reviewer comment that they thought ages 10 and under would love this waterpark, and I would agree. I think middle school ages and up might want some more thrills that a larger park could offer (we've only been to two other waterparks- the Double JJ near Muskegon, MI, and Aquatica by Sea World in Orlando, which is outdoors and amazing).

After having pizza in from Riverside Pizza (#1 Trip Advisor Recommendation and I agree!), we headed over to Cabella's (literally a 9-iron away from the hotel) and dad got to spend some money on ice fishing gear and the kids were able to enjoy the aquarium of fresh water fish and taxidermy. I think having Cabella's right here is an added bonus for a short family getaway, and it seemed like downtown Dundee had some nice local shops that my bride would enjoy if she had time to shop.

The only subpar experience was the restaurant, where we ate breakfast. It just took awhile for our food (we did show up at 9:15 and it closed at 9:30, so that was on us) and I thought the portions were a little small. My kids can knock out pancakes with the best of them, and the 2 on their plate and 1 slice of bacon was lacking. But kids also eat free, so that made up for it as our breakfast was really inexpensive. But I think if I were doing it again, I would head next door to Bob Evans (there is also a Lone Star Steakhouse and Applebee's within walking distance if you're thinking about lunch or dinner, although I would send you down to Riverside Pizza).

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and will probably do it again some year. The combination of a water park and Cabella's, and a clean room made for an excellent stay.

“Clean, Comfortable, Quiet and Friendly!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We stayed during a promotion for any available room at $179. We got an Adventurequest Suite with a King bed and a set of bunkbeds in a partioned off room and a kitchette with microwave and mini fridge. The check-in was quick and courteous. Our room and the building it was in appeared to have been renovated very recently. I was surprised that the 2 TVs in the room are older CRT style and not flat panel, but we weren't there to watch TV. The water park was clean and very well run. The lifeguards seemed to take their jobs very seriously and were excellent and keeping everything under control. They allow you to use the water park from Noon of your check-in until closing time on your check-out! Breakfast was a nice buffet with a good selection. All of the employees we dealt with were friendly and seemed to actually like their jobs; a rarity in this era. We will definietly be back as it's only an hour drive from the northern suburbs of Detroit.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor and the rooms were exceptionally quiet

“horrible wait staff/rude managers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

I've stayed at over 60 holiday inns in the past years. I paid over $500 for my weekend stay. I was appalled when i took my children to dinner inside the waterparks restaurant .It was Saturday oct 1st. My server was clearly unprepared, She couldnt even make my wifes drink a strawberry daiquiri. She told me she didnt know how, and that they didnt have a bartender. She told me that it was just her and her manager working that night. I have never experienced such poor service. I spoke with the food and beverage manager. He was extremely rude and clearly in over his head. He came to my table pouring and dripping with sweat. Not only was that unappetizing but my servers personal body hygiene was beyond Nauseating. Her body odor was so bad i could smell b.o my whole dinner and every time she walked by or stopped at my table. I asked to speak the general manager about my horrible experience that night. I was than informed that the splash general manager, left that day at 3. I was told he would get in touch with me before my check out. I never heard from him. I will never return to this hotel and am seriously considering choosing any hotel that is not a holiday inn for my future vacation and business trips.
